Hello. I am an American citizen looking to move to Tirana, Albania to teach book arts. It seems like book arts would be a good subject to teach because it could incorporate so much of the change that is already happening in Albania. A place to hold notes, pictures, documentation of the changes, histories, language and any other type of materials someone would want to place in a book. The learning of how to make a book from scratch is fun for kids as well as adults.I've taught English in Japan for three years. I also speak, read and write in Japanese. I do not know the Albanian language yet, however am doing my best to learn with the resources available in America. I would love to go to Tirana, Albania and teach kids and adults how to create their own hand-bound books. I would certainly be willing to teach using English as the primary language to facilitate learning a new art form as well as language... That seems like a challenging task. I also have a fine-art degree in painting and printmaking. Please contact me if there might be an opportunity in your institution. Respectfully, Ashley

Hi. It's been a really long time since I first thought of this idea. My dream is still strong. I believe, on my own power, I can make enough funds to create an opportunity to travel to Albania within the next two years. Big dreams are worth waiting for. :-)Ashley

Hey Ashley:I was thinking the same to. I'm an Albanian living in the USA for 9-years now. I want to teach History or Art History in Albania. I know that there are very good historians there, but living in 4 different countries so far i have learned the history of my country 4 different times, until to a point i did not know what my routes were. I searched online i asked my history teachers and i came to a conclusion that i finaly found that we as Albanias don't teach our history a lot, to young students and if you are in South Albania from were i am (Gjirokaster) most of the people say that we are ancestors of Greeks, and If you in the north part they say that they roots are different. Now i'm not saying that this is tought at schools. But if you hear your parents all the time telling you that they are Greek you were raised with that and you were brought up to beleive it. My point is that if i ever go back to Albania i want to teach my students, that Albania is one of the ancients countries in Balkan and we have to be proud of ourselves. What's really importand at this point is that we have to find what we are and not what we want to be like(Greeks or Romans)because they have richer history and they are in higher economicaly status than Albanias are at this point. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
