* Despite Belize City being dangerous, what have you heard about the rest of the country, in Belize? ...

My understanding is that there's no infrastructure. And it's hot as hell. At least in Panama City, there's air conditioning everywhere and the roads are good. Everything I know about Belize was from two Belizian women I had dinner with, on a lay over in Houston. They said that with the exception of Ambergis Caye, it's very dangerous.

I was born in Belize and now live in England.Belize i would say is no more dangerous than London, or the rest the world. Go live in LA for a while.

Belize has a population of about 265, 000. There have been 55 murders this year so far, that is 15 times higher than the U.S. rate and 30 times higher than Canada. Gangs run wild in Belize City, recently there was a shooting near a tourist hotel killing 3 and wounding 15. The same night a drive by killing on the bridge. An American couple who lived in the country for 15 years were killed execution style by 2 boys 15 & 17 near San Ignacio. The bottom line, stay out of Belize City and off long stretches of open road where bandits roam with AK-47s. Stay away from area near the Guatemalan border. Move to Amergris Cay

and stay there, you will be fine and only travel to Belize City to catch a plane somewhere.

The last three years I have traveled to Belize with my three children. I am a single mother. We spend four weeks traveling all over the country. I have not

had any kind of problems with anyone at any time. With the exception of

a couple scamming me out of $300. And one half of that couple was an American woman.

I have been thinking about moving there myself. I love Ambergris Caye and Placencia. I have noticed there are a lot of expat. in Corozal but have not been there.

i am thinking of visiting and possibly moving to belize.. my life style is very simple..
