Bulgaria - Retirement Retirement in Bulgaria Jeffrey (66.56.56.163) -
Hello Steve,You might want to check out the Retirement in Bulgaria section of the forum site for Americans retiring abroad, called www.RetireAway.com. The site is geared for Americans, but visa issues are going to the same for people coming from different countries. Best wishes for your move to Bulgaria. Trackbacks

Diana, Looking for the same. Everything I have found so far is very expensive. Friends who are already living near Varna, are searching locally. If and when they discover this secret, will let you know! Meanwhile, for our first long stay, I am looking into "backpackers" travel insurance, which seems to cover a lot of situations, for at least a year, and for a very reasonable price. If interested try looking at sights like "insureandgo". If anyone else has any experience or "what are you doing about health cover and insurance" suggestions, we would love to know. This is one of my main concerns! All the best to those brave folks out there! Jo and Keith

Further information about getting health insurance. As a non bulgarian citizen you are not allowed to use the services of the Bulgarian Health Insurance Co. until you have a visa for permanent residency; D Visa. Once you have this it costs 6 leva per month for Bulgarian Health insurance. Until you can get this you can use the services of the private sector in medicine. For example, an appointment with a GP costs 25 leva. If you have health insurance it costs 2 leva. This information comes from our lawyers, so I presume it is correct. Does anyone know differently?
