Having lost my passport 15 hours before flight home, I would like others to learn from my mistake, by not using travel document to keep money in, keep your passport in seperate zipped area only removing for official purposes!!!A) Go back to last area passport seen! leave phone numbers!
B)Report loss to police, you will need a copy of signed statement and crime number from the police, this is required by British Embassy!
I couldnt make police understand what I wanted, so had local lawyers assistant type statement in Bulgarian, unfortunatley I didnt get him to read back to me what was written! Instead of lost it read stolen which would of required an investication being set up!
This resulted in a visit from the police to the place I was staying, on finding out that the statement wasnt correct, I had to go and make a further statement, taken by 3 seperate police cars to Ruse and back at 120km ann hour with blue lights flashing!
C) Be prepared to change date of flight, British Embassy only open certain days at set times!
Be prepared for bag search!
Dont expect Tea or coffee, only water available!
Be prepared to be asked if your flight is direct!
D) You will need Two passport photos!
E) For emergency passport, it will cost 140 levi, this must be in levi, no credit card or english currency excepted!
Though the police except the loss of one passport in Bulgaria a second loss will result in a fine!!
Should you require British Embassy out of hours there is an Emergency number!!
On return to uk this passport document will be took of you, ask at Embassy for a copy of this passport, as you are meant to be given a copy on your return to uk, I didnt get one, when tired after flight it saves the hassel!!
Be prepared going through passport control in uk to be questioned about not having origpassport, reason for it, and whether you have done a staement!
