Traveling Europe to SA for World Cup

I'm looking for ideas / assistance / resources. We are traveling overland from Europe or possibly Egypt for the World Cup. We'll start in January 2010, allowing 5 months for travel prior to the first match on June 11th. We are a group of football people from California. One of us is an owner of a football club (San Francisco Seals) . Another was a member of the US Womens National team. We'll provide football clinics along our route to SA. We need the following assistance:

1) Best ideas for buying / renting/ leasing vehicle in Europe or Egypt and leaving vehicle in South Africa or returning it to Europe if necessary.

2) Best ideas for places to stay in SA for the games. We could either rent a house or live at a camp site.

Any assistance / advice will be very much appreciated.
