Just some advice, etc, regarding jobs in CR and cost of living?

Jobs are abundant in the sportsbook industry for an american. Due to the labor laws here promote laziness to the locals. Its a joke what we have to give them for severence and vacation time. Cost of living is expensive!! Don't think your going to live better than the states here. Sure you can get a house for 40-50,000 , but its in a less desireable neighborhood. My suggestion to you is look at Panama and the roads won't tear your car up. Atleast they are where Costa Rica was 10 years ago, and you can import a new car there every 2 years tax free. Our expedition is going to cost us 14500 in taxes and its a 2003. Groceries are expensive as well and sure they have some things from the states, but just the basic stuff. and meat is TOUGH. very rarely you will find tender meat unless you go to a butcher and they are pricey as well. Good luck in everything and If you plan on leaving costa rica with a million dollars come here with 5 million. and Don't hook up with a local they are entitled to half of everything regardless!!

Thanks, Shelby, That sounds very honest, and it's what my research shows..... Once the expats from around the world "discovered" a decent COL in CR, that was it. The desireability of it, coupled with limited housing, etc., drove the prices to where you cannot do better than the US - midwest, anyway. I'll take a look at Panama. I'm also looking at Mexico, although that was last on my list.... Any other reasonable suggestions? Thanks, Lale • Page 1 (Original Post) •
