Costa Rica is one of the countries that Soc Sec will forward your checks to. If you keep your Bank account in the states, you can open a Tico acct & transfer money. or you can have anything you want sent to your Costa Rica Bank, automatic deposit. I am a widow, & I also want to retire there. I love it there. I am going in Nov to live & learn the language at a Tico home & School there. There is a company that has a vac package that teaches you all you need to know to retire there. I wanted to go with them, but can't afford their package, it is a gourmet pk. I will have to find them again, I did get their mail but I changed my enternet providor & lost it

You can now get your Social Security check deposited into your Costa Rican bank account. The military and Veterans Administration just made provisions for your retirement checks to be deposited into your Costa Rican bank account. It is very easy to live in Costa Rica, the hardest thing to manage was getting your retirement income deposited, now that problem has been solved. My husband and I refuse to have our money transferred because we are not 100% positive about the Costa Rican banks. We trust the banking system at home and have money deposited in our Costa Rican account after we withdraw funds from our account in the US which we withdraw using the ATM machine. That gets a little difficult but we just have not put very much faith in the Costa Rian banking system. At least not enough trust to send our retirement checks to the bank. Sometimes just taking care of normal things here is difficult because our systems of transacting business are so different. Costa Rica is a great place to be but it does have many differences from the way we usually transact business in the US. Someone asked about golfing, they have several developments with club houses and golfing ranges. One in particular is located in an area called Los Reyes. This development has a lovely golf course and a beautiful club house. It is a gated community but I have found the people to be geniune and very friendly. We have other communities, one in a town by the name of Carraire. Sports clubs that you can play tennis at are pretyy common in most areas. Golf in Costa Rica is definetly a rich mans sport.

What retirement conference: "I wanted to go with them, but can't afford their package, it is a gourmet pk."I suspect the ones that do best from that or similar conferences are the ones that put them on. I saw a retirement conference for $895 or so a person (well, they had half off for your wife), so for a cool $1,342.50 you and your wife can learn about how great it is to retire there. Oh yeah, you'll need to pay your plane fare and lodging. Now, if the promotor gets 10 couples that a good 13 grand for the weekend and maybe the $342.50 can over the room. Now there is a good retirement income for working 2 days a week. If you want to play golf... why not give Urban Gold a shot. No course fees.

Does anyone know why Macaw Development Group is closing down the Macaw Mountain Development? My daughter, who lives in San Jose, heard on the news today that a housing development near Jaco is closed because the developers were not authorized to sell the land. - and I was wondering if it was Macaw Mountain.

We would like to hear from Americans living in Costa Rica. We would like to purchase a nice single family house in a nice community. Any information is appreciated since we have no idea about Costa Rica or how life is ther. Just heard it is a great place to retire.

Trouble getting residency? Probably none. Trouble living in Costa Rica? Probably a boatload or more.

There are many great places to retire in Costa Rica. If you are a beach fan, one of the best areas is Flamingo and northern Costa Rica. If you are thinking you would like cooler weather for your retirement, maybe Lake Arenal would be a good choice. The best places to retire in Costa Rica really differ depending on who you are asking. It's best to take some time and explore to figure out where the best places to retire are for you!
