I want to combine a vacation with a fact

finding mission on living in Costa Rico. What

will rent cost for a place with an ocean view or

short walk to the ocean? Not a seasonal rental

but a permanent place. My income will be ranging

from $ 1,600.00 to 2,300.00 U.S. per month (Enough? Need More?)

What places should I visit as far as sight seeing?

Question :About as published on the web sight you must have done this before.

Thanks Dave

The Cost of Living is dependent more on your lifestyle than anything else. Your best bet is to come down for a while and check it out. Do some shopping for groceries and stuff and see how it compares for your kinda stuff.

Check out some places you want to live. I can tell you that a room is available for 15,000 a month ($32 ish). But do you want to live there? I can also find your a place for $5,000 or more a month. Is that the kind of place you want to live? An apartment for $200 or $300? Until you look at it and the area you couldn't venture a guess.

You should be able to easily live for less than in the USA.

Is "water" as in water for your house to collect in buckets rather than the usual running water one has?

Water as in a lake?

Water as in a swimming pool?

Water as in the Ocean? Atlantic or Pacific?

Once I have had the chance to visit I am looking at possibly hanging my hat up in Costa as I have heard many great things from friends here In Florida, U.S.

The peoblem is it will not be for about 10 years ( darn kids )but the ? I have is in that amount of time will $500,000.00 US be enough ? Would it be enough now ? There will be my Sposa and myself and we would be looking at buying instead of leasing so we would be pensioneers at the time.Oh yea and we would be ruffly 46 yrs and 42 years of age so that gives a clue of life expentancy. Anyway I know it is hard to guess at 10 yrs from now but you opinion would be very helpfull in our decision.

If you have an income over $1000 a month you will live well in Costa Rica, it does depend on your lifestyle but for most people that is enouph to live comfortably.

As to the other posting, in 10 years we have no idea what will happen in the world, maybe it might even come to an end, but if not Costa Rica will likely have prices go up, specially in Real Estate, so a property bought then will likely cost half price now.

The requirements will have changed probably a half a dozen times, but will still be accesible to most people.

I have seen some decent properties in Costa Rica for around 50, 000 USD. They are small, but very neat little houses and very Costa Rican style. They have a lot of character. If you could afford to buy a vacation/retirement home between 50, 000-100, 000 outright you would be more than able to make it in Costa Rica. I am not sure if the ones I saw online were right on the water, but they looked very nice. If you want one on the water, I am sure they are higher. Just as many previous posts have said, it is all about the lifestyle you choose.

Dirt floor, one room shack?

If internet is important... be sure that it is *really* available in a location before you rent or buy.
