Hello !

My lovely wife and I are thinking of leaving this crazy USA for simpler life and better culture. Just met a chap that says Cuba is a hidden gem.

We are are PhD's, both physics, interested in teaching/promoting solar and learning from a wonderful culture that enjoys food, dance, and family.

We want to be in a city close to the ocean and have a plot of land to grow our food while being involved in a community that respects and thrives on interaction.

What does land go by down there and are the chances safe? What about work in the field mentioned (we are also excellent teachers)

hope to hear from someone,

Alexander

Nice dream Alexander ..

it won't happen during your lifetime ..but everybody has a right to dream...

Hi all,

Well here's another dreamer...........

I am thinking hard about moving to Cuba without ever visiting it (but may in the near future). I am in Almeria, Spain at the moment and have been for 7 years and speak Spanish extremely well. I would like to set things in motion with the view of moving over in about 5 years time. I would like at this time to set up a bank account and possibly register a business. Have any of you sucessfully done this and could you recommend the best course of action. I would be grateful of any help you can offer.

Thanks and hope the weather is as good with you as it is with me.

Donna

Donna,

I lived and worked in Almeria in the 60's & 70's (film bidness), and visited Cuba as a video journalist 8 or 9 years ago. Cuba reminded me of the Spain of the 50s (lived there as a child), and I loved the people. The government didn't seem intrusive, but I was only visiting...so, my observation is somewhat superficial. The racial diversity is amazing, and the people seem to manage. What the government stores didn't have, the markets did. I, too, am curious about the potential Cuba has as a base for international business. I hope Cuba is able to overcome any major transitional problems when the Castro family is no longer in power. Franco was able to prepare for his own passing with the Monarch he helped educate acting as a bridge to democracy. Maybe the Castros have something similar in mind.

I'll be in Almeria during the second week in July to visit for the first time since the mid 70s...my daughter was born at the old Cruz Roja Hospital in 1970...someone told me it burned down soon after that. By the way ( and I know this isn't the proper forum for this), do you know of an actor/former stuntman living in Almeria by the name of Raul Castro (not Fidel's brother)? He was someone I knew in the old days, and considered a friend. If I could find him he might be able to help me track down some other people of that era...oh well.

Sorry my info about Cuba isn't current or in depth, but I will say that they appeared to have a modern infrastructure and the people seemed as though they were content...although, by US standards quite poor. It could be a great opportunity to be in on the ground floor in Cuba, or it could be stepping into a bad situation if politics get really nasty in the form of a civil war when the Castros leave power.. I genuinely hope that isn't the case, but if you're considering moving there you should weigh the possibility.

Well, I've been babbling on long enough. Good luck on your dreams.

Mark G.

Donna,

You still live in Spain? My intended, my beloved, in Cuba, who I am going to visit in December, wants to live in Spain. Although I own property and have a permanent job in the USA, it is going to be very difficult for me to assist her in relocating to the States and with Cuba allowing her to leave, particularly to the USA. We are looking for someone to invite her to Spain, and I would also locate to Spain.

I know this is a bold email to ask a perfect stranger, yet perhaps you can help or know of other resources.

In the meantime, I am also looking for opportunities to volunteer, exchange or work within Cuba during my extended stay.

Thanks! Contact me at soulstarus2006@yahoo.com

Hello,

My friend is staying in Cuba for several months. How can she get in touch with expats in Cuba? Life abroad becomes so much easier when you can exchange experiences.

Thanks!

Griet
