An early happy Easter to you all After several holidays to Cyprus and a very stressful working life my partner and I have decided to relocate to Cyprus and buy a property, probably within the Pafos area. We are too young to retire, and hope to set up a business. I have already gained lots of information from the internet but any tips such as recommending solicitors, estate agents, expat groups and anthing else you may think appropriate would be gratefully recieved. Who knows this could be the start of several wonderful new freindships Kind Regards Mike & Jan Trackbacks

hi there, my wife and myself along with my parents are hoping to relocate to pafos at the end of this year. we are looking to rent a fairly large (2/3 bedroom & 2 living room) house to share. my parents are both retired, my wife is a hairdresser and i am currently selling cars although i have a hgv license. i would be very interested in any information on jobs, privately rented property, healthcare etc. we are hoping to rent privately, as the rental properties through estate agencies seem rather expensive. word of mouth is usually the way!! anyone who has any information and is willing to help out will have 4 new best friends!! thanks and hope to hear from lots of new friends! dale & josie

It can be stessful, ive jus posted on another board on this site the same thing, but its relevent. I used Proact Partnership www.proactpartnership.com they dealt with my tax's, immigration, inital rental and then my house. They are a british office that specialise in other areas too, i believe wills & estates etc.Oh and they are actually based in Pafos. Good luck with your move! Shaz

I didnt mention that they also do company formation.

Re: Emma & SteveIm also based in Pafos, the international school is of good quality although they have just built a new international school in Anavagos which is north pafos town. Very big but the furnishing isnt finished, it is due for completion for the next school year. Shaz

Hi all, my family & i have been in Paphos for 2 years. Great place for familys & retirees. One thing is for certain, without unbiased reccomendations YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF. Personaly i take it with a pinch of salt, Iam from London, so to me its a fact of life. Iam also a tight sod, & so have found in the last 2 years the best & cheapest of every thing! accountants, shipping, lawyers, foriegn exchange companys, tyres, schools, etc, Iam not the font of all knowledge, but i have never had rose tinted holiday glasses on.Do not fall for the best pals act, every one is on the make. If any one wants any advice for any thing at all please email me- sherlock221bst@hotmail.co.uk. Whats in it for me, nothing, buy me a pint when your over, I know it is incredibly stressful moving out here,if i can help i will because lifes too short not to be nice, mail me, i look forward to it, ta paul

We have looked at many overseas options and dismissed them all (or rather I have, Steven is more adventurous. But Cyprus seems different. We have 3 children Ella (14), and twin boys Jules & Willem (9). We know nothing of life in Cyprus. Employment, location and schooling are a priority. We would like to buy but what area is best ? any suggestions advice or useful contacts would be greatly appreciated Many Thanks Julie

Hi there! The schools in Cyprus are very good as i and my brothers and sister went to them in Paphos. I am 18 years old and have lived in the area of Paphos for some time now. My parents decided to just up and go and have never regeted it, we have owned our own pub/club for 7 years. It was a huge gamble but i recomend any one to do it. We still miss the cold winter days (not) but do come back to the UK 3 times a year. Good luck Jimmy!

My wife and I have finally made the decision to semi-retire to Cyprus. But at 49 years old I am a little to young to stay at home and prune the roses. My question here is about employment. Looking through the Cyprus job sites it appears that the Greek language is mandate for the majority of sales & marketing positions (my area of expertise) advertised on the recruitment web sites . Does anyone know if this is factual or are there jobs that only require English? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Ian

HI KirtsyI want to give you a good tip, if your children do go to a good school in england, hang on and get them education here. we moved to Paphos in 2004, we had planed emigrating to cyprus for 5 yr. i got info on Paphos International School. but when we arrive to take a test, i could believe what a shambles it was, also the staff unsure. the new school MIGHT be better. NOTE there is nothing on Internet beware what they send you are tell you. We will be returning, next year when my son finish school. and its FREE.

hi, my parents who are in their mid 50's moved to cyprus last month. They have holidayed there for years , and were hoping for an easy retirement. They were going to try and just get some part time work each. they have found the jobs few and far between and very poorly paid. They are now worried about eating into their life savings and are both very unhappy, wondering what the hell they've done in selling up their home in England. They are finding that everything is very expensive by comparison to what they paid as holiday makers ( i.e general shopping, cars etc) and are contemplating going back to Uk, but realistially can't as all their money is in thier cyprus home - yet to be built. They are living in a rental while thier appartment is being built. they are in Peyia. They currently have no computer / internet and I am really concerned about them. My mum has already been to the doctor for sleeping tablets. I live in australia so don't know what to do to help them. Can anyone give me some advice for them? Or can I put them in touch with someone on this forum who can speak with them. THanks Sarah x

Hi to everybody, Evryone is moving in Paphos as i read on the previous posting. Good choice, fantastic place, but i recommend also to check Nicosia the capital, is a very good option and also is good for business and for investing in land due to the new discussion the coverment start for Cyprus problem. In case there is a solution i expect that to many foreigners will move to Nicosia. Sintarda@yahoo.com

Went to live in Paphos December 2001, loved the lifestyle and the much cheaper cost of living i.e. utilities etc. returned to the UK in Sept 2002 to look after elderly parent. Had to down size on property on return to UK and now able to reconsider where we want to spent the rest of our retirement years we are both 68 and on pensions. However am reading a lot of negatives about propery prices, cost of living etc. I cannot decide whether its affordable any longer. I expected priced to have risen as with everywhere else but I would dearly love retired ex-pats with limited income to give us some REAL advice and not the rose coloured views that just add to your caution. Would much appreciate responses

Hi to all those also thinking seriously about moving to Paphos in 2009, I am 39 my husband 42 and our kids 12, 11 and 5 . we went to visit the international school during the summer break when the school was closed but open for summer school, a lovely lady ( school admin ) showed us around and told us everything we needed to know about the school the prices and uniforms etc.. she couldnt promise there would be places for the kids next summer but to keep in touch so they can let us know before we arrive, we have been encouraged to send our youngest child to Cypriot school as she will pick up the language etc does anyone share this view ? I would love to hear from anyone who would like to share their experiences with us as we need the advice on this and other things like moving your life over .Thanks Carol Egan
