I would be obliged if anyone can answer my questions to help with my families decision on whether to move to Cyprus. I am 37, my husband 42 with a 10 year old daughter. We already own a property in Peyia so accommodation is not a problem. However, we need to know what sort of average wages we can expect to earn and what is the availability of work like. We own our own business in the UK in bathrooms and kitchens but would probably want to just do home maintenance, gardening, cleaning etc to earn a small wage in Cyprus. However we need to consider education for our daughter and we would be looking to send her to the International School in Paphos and I need to know what costs we are looking at for this. I would be grateful for any help from existing expats living in Cyprus.

hi , i met with the head of this school last october regarding the schooling of our 2 younger boys , we was advised that the cost would be in the region of £2700 per annum with a discount for the second sibling ,there is other costs involved so i would suggest you meet with him , he is a german who,s been there for some years now , a nice chap who will advise you as to wether or not the head of year and himself think your child would fit in easily or struggle with the work , i also no there is a large ex-pat group who share the dreaded school runs in peyia !!! you need to take with you your childs school grades and examples of their work............ good luck.... Ianp.s there are other good schools there as well , try the American Academy .......... tally-ho...Ian

Hi, I'm thinking of moving to Cyprus with my wife and 2 boys I know a bit about schools off people I've spoke to. The other thing I need to know is the wage of a plasterer in the building trade or of any developers who can offer work.

Hello, I am a 27 year old Part 2 qualified architect currently working in Scotland, UK, on a range of residential and leisure projects. I have about 6 years worth of experience within the industry and speak only fluent english. My girlfriend owns a house in Paphos and we are currently considering a move to Cyprus next year on a permanent basis to renovate the house and hopefully to work for a firm of architects aswell. I would appreciate it if anyone has any information/advice on securing employment within a firm of architects/developers in the Paphos region. Are there job vacancies available in this area for somebody of my qualifications, and what is the going rate for salaries? We are intending to move in May 2008. Any other advice on moving to Cyprus would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Adam and Sian

hello, i have recently come back from a holiday in cyprus where we were visiting my boyfriends family in strompi. i have had the most amazing time and i am now thinking about moving over there. i am 18 years old and will be moving out there with my boyfriend who is 19 years old to live with his family until we can get ourselves sorted!! i have found that even in the small villages the locals speak english, 90% of people speak really good english in paphos and everyone is very friendly. the only slight concerns we are having is gettin jobs over there, but while i was there i noticed that alot of the bars and cafes are wanting staff from all EU countries, so finding something for a short time job until i can find something more permanent may not be as hard as a thought! if anyone has any informaton there could give me it would be a great help

Hi, I have been living in Cyprus for the past four years. It is a very difficult place to earn decent wages in. The average pay is only equivalent to about £2.50 per hour. Lots of companies make it difficult by asking for fluent Greek. Also, the cost of living here, since going into the Euro, is very high. I would seriously think very carefully before making a decision to move here with children. Everyday things for the home, the children are much less readily available at affordable prices. There are lots of good things about Cyprus but it has now become quite an expensive place to live. Good luck with your decision.

It is quite difficult to get work here if you don't speak greek, as a lot of jobs offered ask for fluent greek&English, although russian is now also an advantage. A lot of people are applying for the same job, non-skilled & skilled; cleaning jobs get snapped up, and quite often there are a lot of people to choose from. There are some ex-pat English speaking companies, but these are difficult to get into. Unless you are experienced as a chef or in catering, bar-tending (few and far between), waitressing and some of these are seasonal, there is not much else on offer. There are a lot of unskilled workers here who will do the job for less than the brits. The ex-pats I have met who come out here looking for work, are finding it hard. The property market has slowed, so has tourism. It is very expensive to shop in Cyprus as well, as a lot of goods are imported as are the cars. There are plenty of gardening companies, landscapers etc here. Everything is much more expensive to buy. Administrative jobs are almost non existant unless you are fluent in greek. People are returning to England because the school fees are too expensive to maintain. The wages on offer are low. I couldn't recommend to anyone to move to Cyprus without having secured employment first.

"Moving to Cyprus"
HiWe are moving to Cyprus at the end of this year 2009 and was wondering if anyone could reccommend a good private health care scheme? Also if anyone could tell me what the equivalent of NHS is like? Is it a a must to take out private of is the government health good enough? Also if anyone has any information on ANYTHING about moving to Cyprus that will make our transition easier. Our boys 5 and 7 will be going to the International School of Paphos. Thanks • Page 1 (Original Post) •
