Hi we are trying to organise a workshop for stone carvers and sculptors in west Kerry, Ireland. We would like to connect the rich stone heritage throughout Ireland with modern stonecarving and sculpture. The traditional methods of working stone by hand and the use of pnuematic tools etc today would be exhibited.We are also trying to organise a stone symposium here in Dingle.We will invite sculptors from around the world to partake in the three week event.The theme of the first of hopefully many symposiums will be 'Riverheads'.Each sculptor will carve a 'Riverhead' (often seen in keystones and archways) over the space of three weeks. Our aim is to create a cultural event that promotes peoples awareness of Irish heritage and promotes tourism at the same time.As we are living in the Gealteacht (where Irish is the predominant language) Gaelic will be an intergral part of he project. Would ther be any EU funding for a project like this? thanks Mick Davis |
