Hi, My husband has recently been offered a job in Nadi and I am looking for any information about raising children in Fiji. I have an 11 month old son and wanted to know if there are mothers groups or playgroups etc. What do you do with the kids if they dont want to go to the beach? Also looking to make new friends out there so drop me a line. Thanks Lisa

Hi Lisa, We are living in Lautoka, about 20 mins from Nadi, and have set up a playgroup which is mainly for ex-pats, normally every wednesday morning. I am unsure what other organised activities there may be in Nadi, I do know they have some sort of singing and dancing workshop on a wednesday morning also, at one of the hotels on Denerau. There are hardly any organised activities for younger children and pre-school generally starts from ages 3 and a half years. In a way it is quite nice as there is no pressure on you to be charging around to various activities trying to be a supermum. There is also the expectation that you will employ a housegirl(everybody does here, locals and ex-pats) who will help you with all the household chores and babysit etc. They are not normally trainned in any formal sense but most of them have been doing it for years. The fijians especailly are fantastic with children. Please feel free to email me, as it is always great to meet new people. I forgot to mention we also have a friendship group which meets once a month where people can get together and meet each other make new friends etc. There is a blog page for that on Bebo under the name 'lautoka friendship'. Hope all this helps and i look forward to hearing from you, Lizzie • Page 1 (Original Post) •
