Hi Karen,My advice would be to go for it. I believe there are private schools in both Suva and Nadi. Alternatively, you can do home schooling with a New Zealand or Australian correspondence school ( I understand they are good). I am ex South African and was keen to live in Fiji but I had spent 10 years in Swaziland so was used to that 3rd world environment. Important that both you and hubby/partner are keen. My wife was not so I ended up in NZ. I still travel to Fiji often and love it. It would pay to visit first as life in the two cities (Nadi and Suva) could be a shock to the system. Good Luck Regards GEOFF

Hi thereAre you still looking for advice? My husband and I and two small children are currently living in Fiji on a three year work contract and so far we love it. There is a very good international school in Nadi and in Suva. If you have the opportunity to work here I would say yes! Of course things are slow to happen here and I would say at times frustratingly slow but thats just how it is and you have to learn to adjust. There is a very good expat community here in Nadi and an I believe in Suva as well. Let me know if you would like to know anything specific. Best of luck Lisa

HI, anyone out there willing to help? Id love some specifics on the process of assimilating into Nadi..ie 1)Real Estate how to find a rental property..is this easy/hard 2) Are rental proerties mostly furnished...should we bother relocating furniture etc 3)How to meet expat community 4) Play groups etc for children 5) General info on settling into Nadi and culture 6) Interantional school..how is it..my child will be going there and finally SAFETY ..this appears to keep coming up in our country as an issue but Im not getting that impression from people that live there. Is personal safety and safety for women a concern or is this unfounded? We will be in Nadi so not sure if it is different from city to city MANY THANKS to all that read and decide to reply Please email directly if easier natrose_a@http://hotmail.com

Hi, My husband have been offered a contract for min 2 years in Suva. I'm due to give birth to our fist child in May 2008, and I'm worried about leaving my safty-net of friends and lifestyle in Melbourne. Scared it would be a lonely time as a new mother... Could someone let me know how I would get in touch with and make friends. Is it safe with a new baby and is the medical system good? Thank you for your time. /Ulrika

Hi, wanting to move to Fiji with my 3 kids (ages 5, 10, 12). Not sure which town would be ideal. We are going to move from New York and want to move to Fiji permanently (so want to make the right choice as far as town). Want a safe place, some place the kids would enjoy, lots of sunshine, close to beautiful beaches, need a Christian church nearby, close to a market(s), place where I can have my own garden...If anyone has any suggestions please email me asap !!! Also, wondering what town has the largest expat community ? Thanks for you help. seven2skip@aol.com

I would be very wary of coming to Fiji. Crime is on the rise in Nadi, the expat community on the whole seem to be a bunch of very unhappy campers who are constantly complaining and accommodation prices are ridiculous for what you get. Supermarket prices aren't cheap and the beaches are awful on the main island. If I had known then what I know now I would never have come. Sorry but that is my opinion.

hi to every1 out there wanting to come and stay here in fiji, i'm a fijian university student.let me tell you something about home, home is home! right? so of course its going to be a bit difficult for all of u guys wanting to move here. it means leaving your home and starting a new home in feejee :) we got real estate companies but the costs are quite preposterous and ridiculous from my point of view as a local, if ur looking for a house in fiji here are some pointers: 1) concerned about safety- try and get into a neighbourhood that has big big houses, meaning it'll be expensive but our 'expensive ' neighbourhoods usually have those neighbourhood watch thingys AND just try get a house near the local police post, duh! In lautoka, one neighbourhood i would recommend wud be SIMLA. In nadi , well its everywea. In suva, RAGG AVENUE, BAYVIEW HEIGHTS, laucala beach estates..... continue this next time gotta go!!!! moce.
