I am writing on behalf of IAVC with regards to our plans to implement the Community Education Initiative project in our district of Mwanakwerekwe in Zanzibar-Tanzania. IAVC was founded in March 2005 with a view to improving in every way we can the quality of life of those who are disadvantaged in the community, in particular vulnerable children.

The overall vision of IAVC is one that envisages a future in which each vulnerable individual is able to enjoy the benefits of education, healthcare and tangible social development.

Therefore, it focuses particularly on the needs of vulnerable children, such as orphans of HIV/AIDS and those personally suffering from the infection, of which there are currently 17 dependent on IAVC. As well as this, we also provide material aid and pastoral support to street children, children forced into child labour or prostitution, disabled children and those crippled through substance abuse.

If we are to promote the welfare of such children, we believe education to be a most crucial first step in empowering them to effect positive changes in their own lives and in their community. Furthermore, we have in place counseling and advocacy programs in place to cater for widows, women suffering from HIV/AIDS, and single parents, particularly on issues such as family planning and AIDS awareness, At the present moment, we are providing financial support to 97 children, aged between 5 and 19, helping with their education and basic material needs. As well as this, we have in a place a community feeding scheme which we aim to run bi-weekly, depending on the availability of funds.

With the requested funding, we would be able to cover costs the for the school fees, uniforms, and equipment for all 97 children currently dependent on IAVC, allowing them equal opportunities in education.

The school fees are paid monthly, and, as well as proving each pupil with one set of uniform at the start of the year, we would like to be able to provide a replacement uniform mid-way through the year.

As for equipment, the lack of basic instruments such as pens, pencils and rulers that seem so simple often prevent the children from receiving a satisfactory level of education. This we believe to be crucial in the attainment of IAVC’s wider objectives, which is to see a community which is able to enjoy tangible socio- and economic development and a heightened awareness of issues surrounding HIV/AIDS.

It will allow those, so many of whom have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS, to acquire the means by which they can empower themselves and contribute in building a more educated and cohesive community in the next generation.

Therefore, we highly requesting your good organization to complement our efforts of these are among your interest areas.
