hey folks,

who knows about tax sales in GA. i'm a bit confused because it doesnt seem to exactly work here the way it does in other states.

so far my knowledge is this:

1. some counties sell fifas (liens) over the counter on which you gain 1% / month. anybody know which counties (because so far every county i've contacted says they don't)?

2. most other counties hold "tax sales" which convey the deed, but the owner still has right of redemption for 12 months on which you receive 20% interest regardless of when he redeems (1 month or 12 months all the same)

3. Ive heard something about when you have right to redeem, you have to hold another auction yourself...but I dont see this anywhere in GA code (yet).

Georgia does not sell tax lien certificates. However, Georgia has many tax deed sales and the process is a little more complicated than some states. In Georgia tax deed sales have a right of redemption that pays 20% if the owner redeems the tax deed within one year.

I've been studying tax sales in states around Georgia but am

NOW INTEREST IN GEORGIA BECAUSE I don't have to travel there.

I've hsard that the bidders bid up the properties so the owner

can not buy them back. Where does the money they pay go? Does it go to the county or to the owner after taxs are paid?
