Like Bill Terrell, I am attempting to retire in Germany. I have contacted the German consulate here in Florida. They told me I must file for a residency visa, when I arrive in Germany. Likewise I contacted the auslanderbehorde in Berlin and they said basically the same thing. "When you arrive in Berlin".This is my problem. I want to find out, if I will qualify for a residency visa before leaving. The consulate here could not help me with that. I know they do things differently than we do, but it would seem they must have some criteria. Such as financial status, health insurance etc. I cannot afford to part with all my belongings and my home, purchase a ticket and then find out I cannot stay more than three months! Has anyone else dealt with this situation, and if so could you please tell about your experience? • Page 1 (Original Post) •
