Hi, I am to be posted to Accra/Ghana in a few months and will be accompanied by my two daughters aged 3 and 5. As my husband will only be staying with us for a total of 5 months out of 12 (he works on rotation) I would very much prefer to live on a serviced compound, be it in a house or a flat. Though fully aware that Accra is not a crime riddled city I would nevertheless feel better, especially with regard to my daughters. In addition to that, living in a standard detatched house would bring the hassle of fiddling around with a generator, tackling possible water shortages and being personally responsible for security staff and possibly even a gardener, things that I just would not have time for. Unfortunately my company's HR department in Accra has a problem with this for various reasons which I don't want to go into here.Could anyone who is in the know about the housing situation in Accra please let me know: - whether expats live in the housing developments of e.g. Taysec and Villagio (and others of course if they exist); and - if that is a "yes" - what "sort" of expats live there (NGO/business/industry representatives; diplomats; high-/low-ranking; etc.). Of course I would very much appreciate insights into living on compounds in Accra (advantages, possible disadvantages, etc.). Many thanks in advance. M. P.S.: I am not a newby to Africa

I know this is late, but I just came accross ur post not too long ago. In any case, if you are still interested in getting information, I would check out www.nawa.org OR check out www.goldentulipaccra.com , once you get to the page, click on the tab that says "Ghana Experience" once there, you will be provided with a plethora of GREAT information about ghana --> the schools, the housing, the shopping malls, restaurants, gym facilities, children play centers, etc, etc, etc. You really can't go wrong there. I hope this information is helpful to you! And enjoy your stay in Ghana :) Enyo

@ AndreaI too will be going to Acca, Ghana. You may want to try to enter a post at www.businessghana.com under the "Real Estate" section. Try to find the U.S. embassy online community (blogs, etc.) because the American expats have a network. Go to www.noworriesghana.com and see if there are any suggestions since this website is created by American women who live in Ghana. Lastly, contact the major universities and get someone to tell you which complexes most of the exchange students are staying in.

My boyfriend is going to live in Accra for two years, and I will go next year to start our life there. I would like to know how to rent a house there, as I've read the best place to live is Airport residential area, and also I would like to know if there are European clothes shops or is better to take with us our clothes from here. We also would like to know if it's easy to form part of a social club as the golf one. Thanks!!!
