My father retired last year and moved to Ghana where he's been now for almost a year. Immigration is giving him trouble as he is not working. He's given them the appropriate papers showing that he has an income from his pension but they're not accepting it. Any tips?

My husband and myself are planning on moving to Ghana in about 4-5 years. Are there any organizations that assists Americans with trying to relocate to Ghana? Also what is the expected price to pay for this location and are there any outreach programs in the states that we can contact to get more information and immigrating to Ghana?

Is there a $2, 000.00 dollar declaration before someone can leave Ghana legally?

Reply #3 Bubba from deep in your mind -

No, you should save your money and get the information directly from the U.S. State Department. Paying someone to do the simple paperwork won't get you any better chance.

Could Ghana authorities do something with the immigartion process at the Kotoka International Airport, if Ghana want to attract tourists and investers. to the country. It takes no less than 2 hours to clear through immigration if you are not a Ghana citizen and from ECOWAS member countries. Some of the immigration officers are too slow and take more than 30 minutes with each visitor at the counter, at a time when lines of people waiting for service are so long. Supervision at the immigration hall is also poor, and one can see cases of people who know the officers being advanced at the expense of those in lines. This is a form of corruption, and it only soils the good name of Ghana. If you do not believe it, just be at the airport when 2-3 flights happen to land about the same time.

Mr. Steigerwald, I am afraid you are the victim of a scam , which has become notorious in Ghana.

There is no such thing as 800 USD release fees and somehow I am sure you met your so-called fiancee on the web and never in person.

Check google for " 419 & Ghana " or get information from other Ghana related forums if you do not believe me.

But for god's sake do not send any money !!

please, please help.....i need to confirm that you are indeed holding a carl johnson a us citizen on over-staying his visit charges(?). Not sure of what it is called. I received a phone call and was informed that i needed to send thirty-five hundered us dollars($3500)in order for him to be released and to continue his trip back home. The caller also said, that he would be taken to court and if fine not paid..to jail he goes.

He is being held for over staying, but it was explained and proven that he was in hospital and showed the immigration people the bills that were paid with dates and official doctor stamp.

If he is being held for over-staying and can prove that he was in fact in hospital under doctor's care.....can you please help me find out why he is not being expatrated immediately and sent home.

Also, he is not allowed to pay any bill with a credit card. Can you please verify that that is the policy of the immigration department there in Ghana.

sincerely,

DESPERATE

i met a girl on line that says she is very interested in comming to he usa, she says fees are for passport 300. fees for a visa are 400.plus plane fair has to be bought through the embacy there for 1400. and she also says 3000. dollars has to be in possesion to show at boarding to prove she can stand alone in the usa to give me back on arrival, this all seems very strange to me, she says the money is to keep her from falling to fraud here, is any of these statements true , or where do i get specific charges and all information on this matter. thank you any help you can offer.

Reply #14 Bubba from deep in your mind -

Read the U.S. Embassy wesbite... it looks like she wants you to send her about US$5, 000.

Money you will never see again.

I have meet a guy online in nigeria. He was working on the gas company in the warehouse. the company paid him in money order and cant get cash there unless he comes to us to cash at the bank of america. he hotel bills and internet bills were too expensive to live. I sent him money to travel to the next country of ghana to get on flight to come here to us. Now they came and stole his papers and now he cant leave. He is now trying to go through immigration in ghana to leave but they are asking for $5, 000.00 and file some paper work to get his documents to leave for the US now. Is this true? He cant go through the US embassy because of troubles in Nigeria. He just wants to come home and then send payment for hotel and internet bills. Will let charge him $5, 000.00 at the immigration center?

Will they let him come to US if he pays this fee?

Please help me understand more and help him....

Thank You

It is only "true" in so far as it is a "good" story to scam you out of $5, 000 or more.

Contact the US Embassy in Ghana for more information on these kinds of scams.

My girl said after I gave her money for her passport and visa now she needs 2500 in a travelers check with a letter from immigration to leave the county is that true?

Reply #18 Bubba from deep in your mind - Fri Jun 13 06:53:21 2008

She is your girlfriend for real, or just an internet friend? You can pretty much be guaranteed the only reasons she needs "US$2, 500" is to steal it from you.

Did you contact the U.S. Embassy there?

IS THERE ADECLARATION FEE

Reply #20 Judith Afua from Accra - Thu Aug 14 16:15:03 2008

I have overstayed here once and think I had to pay not more than $20 fine when leaving Ghana at the airport.

Before getting into all kinds of commitments it won't harm to come to Ghana and see the one you think you love. The nicest girls online sometimes turn out to be men, enjoying a comfortable life from these kind of scams. Sorry to be so negative, there are many lovely people here in Ghana, but unfortunately also lots of bad guys...
