Can anyone give us advice the best ways to do this and does anyone know a good real estate dealer that can advise on rentals as well as sales. Many thanks Jason

Hi jason Your Best bet in regards to renting a property in greece is to go there first and look around. people dont really use agents they stick a "For Rent" poster in the window with a phone number you call it and arrange to see it you will need a diposit and a months rent in advance hope this helps

My sister went to Kos 28th of this month and is still there for another week. She has forgotten her medication. Anti depressants.I posted them out to her on the 1st of august..after having to get a new precription from her doctor and sent them out to her on the 1st of August by courier service..next day delivery DHL..today Saturday 4th they still have not arrived..last tracking for the item on line was: 02/08/2007 21:30 Athens - Greece Transferred through Athens - Greece I have also contacted the company..and they know as much as I do. Would anyone know..if it would be possible for my sister to buy this medication in Kos..they are Clomipramine(Anafranil). Her husband as visited a few chemists but they do not speak English. The rep isn't much good either.. They are staying in Kos Town. I would be very gratful for any help or advice would be very welcome. thanks in advance Nicola

an open message to all you brits wanting to come here and open bars............ think first.A Bar will not be up for rental if its making money, if it was the greeks would not let it go. If you rent a bar here you will have to pay the rental for the whole 12 months of the year, even when you are shut in the winter. the plain fact is, there are allready too many bars chasing too little business. i know many brits who run bars/restaurants who would pack it in tomorrow if they could.

Hi I have been going to Kos for the last 15 years. I am due to retire next Otober 2009 and would like to live on the island for approx 5 years. I am looking along with my wife a long term rental possibly 2 beds within the Kos town area. I have investigated this over the last few years with the locals but get nowhere. There seems to be little interest in long term rentals. I would appreciate it greatly if anyone out there has genuine contacts who could help. I will be returning to the island in June 2009 and would like to fix something up then help help please!!

Hi, i am a 46 year old male, recently divorced and want to just dissapear from the u.k. I looking for long term rental on Kos, but with the notion of buying a boat and sailing the islands. There is also the possibility of using the sailing as a business and taking people on cruises aroung the islands for a week. Any help would be grateful with regards to property and to boats. I think sailing the one i have here to the greek islands would be fun but hard work. Regards John.

A message and answer to most of the comments made about living/working/buying business's etc. If you are determined enough to start a business in Kos then you will but one thing to remember, if its a bar.....your never gunna be Peter Stringfellow !, most bar owners that go bust usually think they can live a plush lifestyle, the truth is if you want to semi retire in the sun like I've done it is possible with hard work at the beginning but spend cautiously. The Greeks will give up on a business usually cos they been promised better money from another job usually to do with tourism where sadly the big travel company's are very bad at paying so the hotels etc dont get paid often and always run 2-3 years in arrears, and the hotel owners cant pay there staff, you'll find most Greeks have many jobs and get payed a little from each. The Uk travel industry are the worst at paying without a doubt. I know a middle aged couple that moved to Kos and bought a bar, after 12 months they said it was the best thing they ever did, they're not rich but make enough to survive and have a less hectic life....in the sun!. Those that are looking for places to buy or rent, the best way is to be there and talk to the locals. you'll never get anywhere trying to do it from the UK. Travelling to Kos in the winter is hard work but as summer trade drops due to the global economic crisis, direct winter flights are very likely, thus bars/shops/restaurants will do better trade in the winter monthsas the weather is pretty good too. MOST PLACES ARE OPEN IN WINTER....YOU'LL BE SURPRISED HOW MANY BRITS LIVE THERE AND COME OUT OF THE WOODWORK WHEN THE NOISE HAS GONE. REMEMBER !!! If you want to make a new life for yourself then do so, don't let doubting people talk you out of it, it will either work for you or not.....anything has to be better than staying in the UK where its wet and cold and you get taxed on ya tax and then the government take your pants down again and again and again. I'm not saying things are so much cheaper here in Greece but at least if your gunna get shafted it will be in the SUN!

I thought that the people wanting to move to tigaki in kos should no that during the winter months there is only about 6 families that stay, and that the whole of bar street is left with no street lighting at night.I have Greek friends that live there all year round and even they say it can be very boring.I don't want to put anyone off but its these little things that can surprise you.

Hi All, I live here all year round and believe me it is very boring and very small. Prices here for everyday living are about the same if not more expensive for some items so keep this in mind as your opportunity to earn money only really lasts the summer and the rate of pay here is a lot lower than the UK but you still must live in the winter so if counting pennies is your thing and very quiet living for 6 months then you will be OK. Most small businesses are struggling and not only do they have rent to pay 12 months a year but also a business tax for 12 months even although they mostly all work 6 months. I can say that in the winter most places are closed and some areas are ghost towns so don't be misled to think it is the same as the summer months. If you want to retire here and have no money worries then it will good. • Page 1 (Original Post) • Page 2 (Newest Replies) •
