Angel (4) from Petra, Lesvos -

I have lived in Petra for nearly 3 years and i will have to be brutally honest in what i have to say. I love the island there is no doubt it is beautiful and the way of life is very relaxing, however scratch the surface and you will see a different Lesvos. If you are a woman alone there is no doubt you will be pestered for sex and there will be rumours abound about you in the village, some of which are very hurtul, this however is their culture. One big issue i have here is jelousy, the Greeks are a very jelous nation or maybe it is just Petra, and you have to be able to deal with this issue. Gossip is rife amongst the Greeks but if you can learn to ignore it you will be fine. Another thing is that unfortunately you can trust no-one, everyone is out to line their own pockets and they see the English as easy targets, so be very wary, there is no such thing as a free lunch here! As for crime, yes there is crime here mainly thefts i have been a victim twice so do not be complacent. Please note that the people who have written just nice things about Greece have something to gain for example they may own a shop or estate agency so please my advice would be to rent a house for the winter then decide if you like it. It is not all bad i wouldn't be here if it was, i just wanted to take the illusion away.
