Fire in Pointe-a-Pitre in 1844

I am seeking information on a fire that occurred in Pointe-a-Pitre in 1844. My interest relates to a collection of natural history materials destroyed by what has been described as "the great fire of 1844." Those collections were amassed by Felix Louise L'Herminier.
I am keen to learn more of the fire and the extent of the damage it caused to the city. I would greatly appreciate any information on that event.
