Rentals and life in general?

I am interested in moving to Guatemala City or Antigua within a couple months, and would like to get info on life in general there for a retired senior man.

I am making a trip in a couple weeks to check out the Spanish schools in Antigua and get a feel for how I view things there. If this is favorable, I will proceed with my plans to move very soon.

I've visited Antigua three times in the last few years and found it a delightful town in a great setting among the volcanoes. Once you get past the tourist view, though, I wonder what one does there?

I am currently living in Costa Rica. I have lived here since 1997. I guess it may be part of my style to move occasionally, but I am seeing changes here that I do not like so I will move within the next six months or so. I am trying to find information on both Panama and Guatemala so anything that any of you could help me understand better about living in either of these two countries please let me know. i.e. cost of living, openess to gringos living there, cost of housing, security, etc.
