I am doing a report in my spanish III class on a country in South America. Our group was given the country Guatemala. I have learned in just a short moment how interesting and diverse Guatemala is; however, I am curious about he sports that are played and enjoyed in this fine country. Anyone with some facts about the sports can help me thank you.

Here is the problem... after 14 messages... the original question was about "Guatemala" which the poster purported to be in "South America".

Since there is no "Guatemala" in "South America" no one could possibly answer the question.

"Guatemala" is in "Central America".

Now, besides the obvious faulty question (which may be lazyness on the part of the poster or "lazyness" on the part of the educational insistution they attend) why one earth would anyone desire to do this persons homework for them.

Is an encyclopedia so hard to find online -- or even the schools library if one should mention such horrors as printed books!

Anyways, soccer's pretty big there. Catcholic festivals are probably big there since 2/3 of the population is Roman Catholic... But it's hard to say much about their fine arts and etc because the entire country's in turmoil all the time. <_<

It's rather hilarious, I have Guatemala as a project topic for Spanish III as well. I reside in Central VA, just incase some RL person runs upon this post.

Guatemala is wonderful! The country is absolutely beautiful and so are the people! As for sports, football is definitely their favorite...but by "football" I mean American soccer. The kids love to play outside, and will play just about whatever. When I was there, I saw the kids playing basketball and volleyball quite a bit. Hope this at least helps some of you appreciate the country a bit more. I'm spending 9 weeks working there this summer because I love it so much!

The main sport in Guatemala is SOCCER, but they also play a lot of Baseball.but just like any country people practice a lot of sports , boxing , motocross, basketball also big in schools.

They have a lot of excellent athletes, but the goverment doesnt support them like in Europe, USA China.

Profecional Athletes have to pay their own fees, and equipement and work at the same time.Some people had manage to acomplish world records, but due to the Government not suporting them they could not make it to the Olimpics or anythin like that it is very sad...
