We need help/ donation/ funding for specific program for our ongoing / new activities in Kolkata - India. ACTIVITIES OF TOMORROW’S FOUNDATION AT A GLANCE: 1. Education: Tomorrow’s Foundation (TF) is jointly running a Education Project at Dharmadas Model Trust School (a primary school of Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s Education Department) at Kalighat area in day time. . TF starts the day activities at this school with organising the Morning Prayer, collecting absentee list (of the children) from the day school teachers and follow-up them through home visit/ counselling team to bring them back to the school. TF provide mid day lunch, uniform, mental and physical health related support to these children to retain them at the school. Community sensitization programs are held regularly. Model School: TF started a Model School with a view to provide education for the children in a child-friendly manner through joyful learning. Special course is designed for the children so that education to them does not seem to be drudgery but something to look forward to and enjoy. Evening Remedial Tutorial Centre (School after School): The tutorial centre provides educational support from PP to college level students. After passing out of class V from Dharmadas Trust Model School (DTMS) the students are admitted in other local govt. aided high schools. These children are provided with education support up to what ever level they reach. As they are mostly first-generation learners, they are provided with support so that they could follow the lessons otherwise they will become dropouts. Apart from this coaching support we provide various other supports to the children and the communities. Community Based Education Program - Full Alternative TF is running 14 communities based full alternative education centers in different slums of Kolkata for non school going children between the age group of 5 to 9 years. Open school/University for the dropouts/ other categories of children: This special education project is held for the children who have dropped out from the formal schools so that they can continue with their education through Open School or Open University system. Computer Literacy Program: TF started this Computer Literacy centre to help the children develop computer literacy. Adult Education Centre: TF started adult educational centre to give opportunity of basic education to the adults (particularly the parents of the targeted children studying in schools) along with specific work/need based training. This helps them to develop their self-esteem and the sense of responsibility towards their children. TF runs Adult (Women) Education Centre with joint collaboration with KMC education department. 2. Vocational Activities: Vocational Training: Development of Adolescents Through Skill Development TF provides vocational training to the adolescent children/youth (presently TF is working with 120 candidates out of which 100 candidates are project supported by GOAL – India). The candidates are secondary pass and between the age group of 16-22years. Till date 47 candidates have already secured jobs. 3 Health: Health unit: A clinic for general health care, eye and dental problems is conducted every Wednesday for the children in the age group 1 to 18 years. Other than addressing to the health-related problems, the clinic helps in creating health and hygiene awareness among the children and community. Other than this clinic, special facilities are provided to the children who are in immediate need of treatment. Medical history of children is maintained in their health cards. 4 Cultural: Cultural Unit of TF: Classes on music, dance, drama, art and yoga are held on Saturday to have a therapeutic effect on these children and it helps the children to cope with the stress and trauma normally experienced in the family of the targeted children. The children also participate in different cultural functions and are encouraged to draw or paint for exhibitions, souvenirs and competitions. 5 COUNSELLING: Given their background, the target group is very vulnerable to constant mental turmoil. Counselling forms an important aspect of their rehabilitation Both psychological and career counselling support to the children and adolescents are provided. 6 Tomorrow’s Foundation Card Project & Printing House (TFCP): The Card Project was undertaken to provide a positive alternative to the adolescent girls and boys who are formal school dropouts. During the tenure of training they receive a stipend that pays for their travel, food and the purchase of training materials/resources. Along with this training, they are enrolled in the Open School programme to complete their education. Finally on completion of the training course TF finds suitable employment for them. 7 Shelters: TF started - Half Way Home for the children in need in December 2004. It provides shelter, protection, nutrition, education and health care to the distressed children reached. Apart from this we placed the high risk/ single parent/ orphan children in different residential school/hostel. 8. Children Council: Tomorrow’s Foundation already established the “TF Children Council”. The children are taking part with us; sharing their ideas, participating in various awareness programs. 9. Staff Development & Training: TF organizes in-house staff/ members training programs for all level staffs, throughout the year according to project need. TF also send its staffs for external training program.
