My grandfather got an award for being the first on the scene as a police officer. I don't know much of the story myself.

Hello my name is Jonathan Cooke and my mother' Panzianna Rose was supposed to be on the kendal train crash but luckily decided not to go at the last minute. my mother used to work for Donncox and Horret' as an office messenger to the courts and some of her friends from the office had decided to go on the trip to the beach. my mother had a dream' the night before the crash' of her friend with her arm missing and covered in blood walking towards her in the train station. my mother felt great misgivings about the trip and decided not to go' to the annoyance of her best friend. later in the day news filtered through about the crash and my mothers friend was one of the survivors' but funnily enough she did lose her arm.

My mother survived this crash. She was 7 months pregnant at the time and was travelling with her best friend. Her friend died. My mother woke up in the morgue the next day as they thought she was dead. She went on to have a healthy baby girl on Oct 30. This was not to be the only monumentus event in her life. Exactly 6 years to the day, she had triplets. By then she had moved to England to start a new life with my father. We would always ask our mother about the huge gash on her leg and she would tell the story of the Kendal crash.

As a child growing up I would remember my mother and grandmother having scars on both there legs. I would ask how did that happen my grandmother would start to hum meaning that she was upset then later cry my mother never gave much details about it , However she did go on to say the scars happened in a train accident which was bad. Until a couple of days of ago my interest had peaked when standing in line to pay for my food at this resturant in which a book was on display Reaper of Souls.I saw this book and call my mother she went on to tell me about the tragic accident and how it destroyed my grandmother not being able to find both her and my aunt and the amount of crys for help just drove her crazy . I really looked at this as a true blessing for I might not have been here today to even speak of this and cried when my mother told me about the gentleman holding her in his lap parishing in the crash.

I hear my dad talk about it but he was 11 at the time, saying that when it was a blackout the duppies used to hail down taxi's and get in, then the taxi driver would fly out the car & leave the car in the road. . . I suppose it was just for entertainment but sometimes there is truth amonst jest

My Mom told me that I actually got my name from a little girl who survived the Kendal crash, as she thought the little girl was lucky to survive such a horrific accident. Well, 1968 she had me and thus my name. Of course, I have been very lucky in all things in life. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
