Is there anyone out there who has maried a Jordanian and then moved to live in Jordan? If so can you tell me what would a British woman expect. How would she be treated? Would her husband have to treat her differently once he was back in his own country? Would really appreciate someone to talk to about this

Hi I am a british woman married to a Jordanian! We have come to live in Amman for 6-8 months but may be permanent! I could tell you lots of things about life here. Personally my husband has not changed too much towards me although we have to keep a distance from his family who are not too happy about him being married to a western woman!! I think how u are treated depends on lots of things...his family and his relationship with them, if you will live as a couple or with his family, your attitude, the way you dress/ speak/ conduct yourself. I could talk all day about this but please contact me if you wish to chat! Would love to meet someone in same siuation!!

I recently read on the U.S. State Department's website that if an American citizen (or any other nationality, for that matter) marries a Jordanian man, he then has the legal right to prevent her from leaving Jordan, the police will enforce his right, and her U.S. citizenship will not enable her to leave at will. This of course does not mean that Jordanian men seek to imprison their spouses; just a legal consequence of marriage to be kept in mind.

most jordanian are strong and they are helpful but they don't know how to treat thier wives to adapt with thier culture.so, I advise every foreigner to look at thise side and try to prove to him that he was right when you chosen my as a wife . How can you make that?show him your adaption with his culture.treat his faluts carfully by saying "Ithink it would have been better if you had done sth else but you can now do..."

a relative of mine(us citizen) married a jordanian man 3 weeks after meeting him. He is still married to his jordanian wife. How is this legal? HE OBVIOUSLY DID THIS FOR CITIZENSHIP in the US. He will hit two years for his marriage in 8/09 and the plan is to get the jordanian wife and the rest of his kids over here at that mark.

Salam to all of the above, Listen my ladies, am a jordanian man, and I would like to tell you the following: 1. Jordan is nice place to live and almost an open-minded country, if you live in amman, you may find everything is available including sufficient freedom for wearing whatever you wish, but, it is recommended to wear something respectable by a way or another. 2. To marry a Jordanian man, I believe in 80% of the cases you will face problems with the husbands' family and in that case the man will choose either to cut the relationship with his family OR to leave you - sorry for this but this is the truth; unless if he is planning to join you for some benefit for his life such as getting the British Passport, getting better life due to being married with a british lady, etc... 3. Social life in jordan is almost good for forigners and you will find lots of people likes to communicate you, making friendships with you etc. 4. Proffessional Life: As an english lady, you may find very nice Jobs espicially if you are having College and above education. 5. Prices: In Jordan the inflation is too much high but still less in prices than midlands (60% of living cost in Britian). Wishing you a good luck all the time. Best Regards,

Ladies; I am a jordanian man raised in America and the answer cannot be given unless I know more facts. For example Is he Muslim or is he Christian, Why because marrying a Muslim means respecting his religion in Jordan because after all it is a Muslim country. If he is Christian than the Marriage rules are different. How religious is he? Is he a mommas boy? Do not marry a mommas boy! Where does he want to live for the rest of his life? Is that OK with you? Ladies Arabic men in general are no different than men anywhere else except that like most mediterreanean men they are slightly more chuavanistic, at least in public. Any questions, Write

I'm a dual citizen, married to an American. As a woman who grew up in Jordan, I can tell you this.1-DON'T marry someone you just met. (Don't do that anywhere in the world in fact) 2- Discuss religion with him, to the ground. If he's Christian, things might not be very different for you, if he's Muslim, discuss expectations and law. Because it's a Muslim country and follows Islamic rule. 3--VERY IMPORTANT: He gets to keep the children. Your children will be Jordanian by birth, and you won't be able to just take your kids out of the country if things turn sour, without his consent. 4--Men have the upper hand, no matter what anyone says. However, living in Amman is not the same as living in surrounding areas. 5--Like with any man you meet, listen to clues, hints and ask questions. This is your life you're committing to someone else. 6- Surround yourself with a good and reliable support system, a must for every human, but definitely for women living abroad. Good luck.
