So I have a great job oppurtunity in Libya, however, I have many questions that I really need help on. First a little background info. I am from California and just recently married. I have a engineering position in Libya and my wife has said that she would be willing to go as well. So, to the questions...1) My wife is a 4th grade teacher here in the states. Is there jobs available for her in Libya in education? 2) Will I feel safe letting my wife work in Libya? Walking around by herself? 3) How are the health clinics / hospitals in Libya? 4) Is it easy to get around town? I would have a driver assigned to me, however, how is the taxi system? 5) What is the shopping like? Both for groceries and clothing / misc. items? 6) Would it be safe to go out at night with my wife? Just the two of us? Basically, I feel that I would adapt rather quickly to life in Libya. However, I am more worried about my wife. She sounds excited, but she would need something to do such as work. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

HI PHIL.Okay, 1, there are a few schools in Tripoli. The main expat school being GEMS. They have a website so she could check up on any vacancies. It is based in the Suarj area of tripoli. There is another international school just off Gargaresh which is a long shopping street on the way to Suraj. I am sure she won't have any trouble finding a position. 2, As for her personal safety, it is a relatively safe place. There are a few 'frustrated' young men who give the name calling but it's no biggy, just ignore them. 3, There are a few clinics there and your company will sign you up with one of them upon arrival. Medications are widely available. The hospitals vary from the very good to the not so good. Again, your company and clinic will give you the info on these. 4, Taxis are plentiful and not very expensive, noted by their black and white cars. As you will have a designated driver, then driving won't be a problem, however they won't be working 24/7. So you will need to get used to the road and the style of driving. It is not for the fainthearted. I drove myself all the time. Think of the roads and other drivers as mad Italians meets rush hour! You'll get used to it. 5, shopping is ok. Fruit and vegetables are plentiful and there are good butchers too. There are a couple of big supermarkets in town, but they don't have anymore choice really than the smaller ones have. Clothes shopping is fine as long as you are a size 8-14(british sizes) as for the larger lady there is generally little choice. 6, safety at night is use your good judgement. Generally all will be well but don't put yourself in situations that you wouldn't at home in the US. School will be a good starting point for contacts and it won't be long before you discover good friends. Life there can be frustrating, but it's what you make it. Oh yes.......they've got a starbucks!!! Anymore info i can help you with, don't hesitate to ask. regards Carrie

Hi, I have been offered a job with a marketing and advertising agency in Libya. I am from the UK and have recently graduates with a BA degree in Marketing and Advertising. I just wanted to know what is the standard package for someone in my situation, what should I expect, what would you consider to low to accept etc? I know in the Gulf salaries are paid based on what you would get in country of origin, is it the same in Libya. Other than salary, what other benefits should I receive. Please only relevant responses
