HiI think you need to take various things into account. There's not much to do in Libya. Your fiancee's family I'm sure will play an important part of life there. I'm actually moving to Libya and have been chatting to various expats and family members to get an insight into life in Libya. I think that socialising really takes place for women at other people's houses- so friends network will be important. Maybe if you could get a job there taching English, that would be good otherwise you will be very bored. Nightlife is non existent-so again depends what you have been used to here and how much that will bother you. Your partner's mentality could be slightly different over there. It's worth a try. If you don't like it, come back. Hope that's of some use

Annie, I have just read your message and I would like to ask you if you think that's safe to relocate to Libya with small children -can one walk alone in the streets, can we dress as westerners? And any other tips you might find useful. We have lived in a developing country before, but not an arabic one... Thanks. Marta

I am orginaly from libya, now I am in Canada for over five years, The life here we live to work and in Libya we work to live.In canada no social life just working and our age runing very fast, 40% of my income goes for tax, I see the women in a real problem, ecouraged to work very hard to pay tax and to live which affects in the family and having kids.In libya the man is responsile to feed his family and offer accommodation even if she has income. i am planning to go back as soon as possible. To be honest with you, the happeness depends on the man whom you are engaged to. this country is safe to live in

hi everyone, First of all, i am libyan, and currently in the US. I actually agree with the libyan lady who lives in Canada. Life here sucks in terms of social activities and family atmosphere. You really live here to work, but in Libya, life is so much more easier than this in case you have a good job. In general, I swear to Allah that if i had a good, just as good job, i will never come back to the US or any other country to live in coz my country is safe and the life there is more enjoyable.. For the other lady who is engaged to a libyan man. Listen, you will have to change the way you dress of course. First of all coz it is good for you, secondly you wont be bothered if you dress like libyan women at least.... It is just a matter of time and you will be fine. Remember that there is only one thing that would make you love to live in libya, it is ur love to ur fiancee... Thats all for tonight...... Regards.

Dear friends, I am from Turkey and stayed in Libya, Tripoli for 2 weeks. My husband works there for the turkish construction company and i came to look around how is life. Generally it's safe for women if you wear not like western.Everybody watch but no one does anything.Sexual harasement is aonly with watching and telling some compliments. I liked Tripoli, it;s growing city with very good people.Everybody is helpful and very kind.We found very good restaurants and places to go especially with child. There are couple of english schools and International school. The city is very clean and people are clean. We stayed in Place named Janzoor beside the Sea very good place to stay with tennis court, bowling, kindergarden, cinema, kafe, restarants and many thngs to do. You can join to many expats living there.Yes there are not so many trade centres and shopping centres. But don't forget you are in Africa and this is most safe place in African region even better than Egypt and Tunis. You are close to Malta, Tunis, Egypt. Can organize the trips to old roman cities and the above mentioned countries. The prices are very good for food and transport. Everything is fresh and non-hormonised.You'll be very happy in Tripoli and Benghazi. The other places i don;t know. Have a nice trip to Libya guys

hi there yes libya can be a very nice place to live if you are in the right accomadation with a loving husband and understanding family members. I myself am moving there at the end of this year with my libyan husband and our children we live in london and personally cant wait to get out of this rat race but my age may have some thing to do with it as iam 45 now and time to settle down to the quite relaxed life. Yes if can be quite boring for the woman there you are basically just going from house to house unless you are one of the lucky ones and have a job to go to.to be honest i could go on for ever talking about all this please feel free to contact me i go to libya on a regular basis and would really like to meet some english peolpe there as i need to build up a network of friends too. good luck hope it all works out for you. best regards donna
