1- Passport Note

(a) Holders of passports containing a valid or expired visa for Israel will be refused entry or transit.

(b) All visitors entering Libya must be in possession of a minimum of foreign currency 1000 $ on arrival. Failure to comply with this will result in instant deportation and a fine to the airline.

2- Passports

Passport valid for a minimum of six months required by all nationals of countries referred to in the chart above.

3- Visas

Required by all nationals referred to in the chart above, except the following:

(a) 1. US nationals (including family members who may be of a different nationality) do not require a visa if traveling together and holding a letter with proof of sponsorship from an established Libyan company. If family members are traveling individually, the sponsorship letter must include confirmation that prior arrangements were made with the Libyan Immigration Department to obtain entry to the country.

(b) Transit passengers continuing their journey by the same or first connecting aircraft within 24 hours provided holding valid onward or return documentation and not leaving the airport.

4- Visa Note

Visitors must register with the Immigration Office within one week of arrival. Those visiting with an organized tour will usually have this done for them; some hotels also provide this service.

6- Arabic translation rules

Travellers to Libya must now attach an Arabic translation of their personal details to their passports or risk expulsion from the country, even if they have a valid visa.

7-Visa Validity

One months from date of entry for tourist visa and 3 month for business visa. Entry must be within 45 days of receipt of visa.

8- Applications to:

Any of Libya's diplomatic representatives in the relevant country or abroad (such as the Libyan People's Bureau in London). Nationals of Germany must obtain their visas in Bonn/Berlin. Nationals of Canada must obtain their visas in Brussels, Belgium.

9- Working Days Required

5 to 7 working days.

10- Warning

Most visits to Libya are trouble-free.

However, travelers are advised against all but essential travel to areas bordering Chad and Sudan, because of instability in the region. With the exception of the official land border crossings to Tunisia and Egypt, visitors and residents are not permitted to travel in the interior or to border areas without an officially sanctioned guide or specific permission from the Libyan authorities.

Prior permission (a desert pass) to travel to the desert regions is required from the Libyan authorities. We usually arrange this. Once a desert pass has been obtained travelers should avoid those desert areas where oil extraction is in operation.

Libya shares with the rest of the North Africa region a threat from terrorism. Attacks could be indiscriminate and against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners.

Visitors are advised to avoid political gatherings, and to be alert to developments in Libya and the Middle East that might trigger public disturbances.

We are two British nationals, ( Sunni Muslims ), wishing to travel from Tunisia to Egypt, overland in our own vehicle. Please advise of leagalities & costs of crossing at both borders, ( Tunisia & Egypt ), travelling through Libya in a direct route with an overnight stay, if needed. On a visitor visa (visit to join with husband, can one stay 90 days from the date of entry? Or is it from the date of issue of visa? Is it mandatory to get resident visa or one can exit on visitor viaa alone. I will thankful if you can reply.

Once the visa is issued, you have 45 gays to enter Libya from the date of issue. Ie if it is issued on the 4th you have 45 dats fromm the 4th to enter.

Also it will state at which airport you enter

You can get the visa issued for a maximum of 3 months. It is a single entry visa.

If you are a Libyans spouse, you can apply for residence once in Libya.

However you will need other docunentation for this.

Once you have residence you may travel in and out.

Just in case below is what you will need to VISIT your Spouse in Libya.

My business visa to Libya is valid for 45 days. It will expire on Nov.14, 2009. Unfortunately, i was not able to use this visa. I did not enter Libya before the due date. How long will it take to process for the renewal. and how much is the cost. Do i have to apply as a new applicant?

Hope everything goes well.

I am from china, i hope can vist lybia at the end of this year when chinese holiday.

i learned that lybia visa apply is different with some other countries.

but i still dont understand well how should i do .

as i know i should translate my passport in arabic , it is not problem for me, i have friends from lybia and arabic countries.

and they said also need lybia company invitation letter.

i went to lybia just for travle, not for business. so should i must need invitation letter ?

I know lybia visa is overturn visa diffferent with soem other countries. i learned that should lybia country immgrants department have one allowance paper for entering lybia and then transfer all those documents to lybia embassy in china . then it will okay.

so does it mean i must ask some one in lybia help me get that allowance paper to enter lybia?

sorry a little long, hope some one can help me exactly how to step by step.

With due respect to the gentlemen advising the procedure to get a visa, .As a former expat i can tell you getting a visa to Libya is not as easy as they say is ..Firstly you need to have an Arabic translation of your passport , Next step is the company you work for or your sponsor in Libya .This process can take anywhere between 10-15 days .Once your visa is approved they either send a telex approval to the Libyan embassy in your home country (The telex never reaches them or they say it doesnt ) .This approval is the basis on which your visa is stamped in your passport ... So you can travel back and forth the embassy for about 2 weeks and finally they will stamp the visa on your passport (As if its a big favor) ..Apparently they issue visa approval numbers instead of telex but the outcome remains the same instead of saying they cant find the telex now they say they cant find the code!!!I cant speak on behalf of all th Libyan embassies but the two embassies i have been to (UAE and Russia) treat visa applicants like .. I am from Russia , lots of Libyans travel here for their studies and Medical treatment what if we treat you the same way we are treated when we try to get into your country!
