Hello! Am currently living in Dublin, but planning to move to Luxembourg. Would like to hear from anyone who just recently moved there. How do you find living there? social life? people? is it difficult to find an appartment? Any good websites for job search? Are you happy that you moved? are there lots of foreign people living in Luxembourg? I have been there once only about 7 years ago... Thank you in advance for your replies! Trackbacks

Hi Luxembourg experienced expats, can you steer me to a cheap hotel or accom solution, I am already renting a property in Frankfurt but am moving to Lux, probably want to find a cheap place whilst I find an apt to rent...Also, expat dives, social events and URL's would be appreciated. Been expat in Amsterdam for last 3 years, Frankfurt for the last 5 and Paris and Bruxelles before too.

I've got an interview for a job in Luxembourg and wondered if anyone can tell me briefly how costs compare to the rest of Europe? How much can you expect to pay for a decent apartment? Is it easy to meet people who speak English?

Hi, I'm on a second interview on 1 June. I'm Irish but have been living in London for ten years but have had enough and would like to get out of the rat race.Same questions as every one else. Easy to get a social life together? Meet new people? Would you recommend the place? Easy to get sorted appartment wise? Of course I could be tempting fate as I've got to get through round 2 yet, but any information and good/bad feedback would be appreciated. Cheers!

I have moved out here for a 6 month contract from London.I like many people take the Sunday PM out and Friday PM back so can spend the weekend in London. After staying in far to many different hotels I have now settled into KeyInn which is a serviced apartment. Breakfast and cleaning are provided but its like having your own apartment. Highly recommended. Mark

Hi everyone!General answers about Luxembourg(I've lived here almost a year now): Its really really easy to meet people - mostly everyone just moved here themselves and are open and social. A lot of people speak English (professionally everyone) but everyone speaks French (shop people French only). Cost level is average in general, except for housing which is very expensive. The real estate market is active and very agent-controlled, as long as you pay you'll find what you need. Have a look at www.athome.lu for current sit. Taxes, welfare etc is pretty optimal - low tax, high service level ... but you knew that. Luxembourg is a really picturesque little town. Watch out for "these littletown blues" and enjoy the niceness instead of searching for the pulse ...

Hi Everyone,I am moving in a few weeks over to Lux and would like to know if anyone has put their kids through state school. Need some general advice as to the process of registering the children and how the school is allocated. Also, would be useful to know how other children have adapted to the multitude of languages that they face. Cheers, Lorna.

Hi, We moved to Lux in September from Scotland, we live in Grevenmacher and I work for Eurocontrol at Kirchberg. My daughter (11) attends the European School, in first year of secondary school where they push them hard with work. I will be starting a website shortly for expats to give real and useful information that my wife and I have had to find out ourselves. Any expats in my area or if you need any info on moving over , ask me and I will assist if you can. Good bars for expats are Ecosse(Scottish), The Pyg(Irish), Britannia(English) some nice ones at the grund also

Hello Anton from Latvia!I am also from Latvia. I am currently living and working in Luxembourg. If you are still planning your move to Luxembourg, be aware that Latvian citizens are required to obtain work permit to work in Luxembourg. It is not like you arrive and get a job, your employer will have to apply for work permit for you. And not many employers are willing to commit time, effort and money to that.

Hello everyone I am waiting to hear back from an interview but may be moving to Lux sometime in the next few months or so; I am from the US originally but also have UK citizenship as I've been in London the last 6 years. Would anyone be able to advise on whether a car is mandatory for living in Lux, how easy it may be to find an apartment or whether sharing initially may be preferable, and a bit on the cost of living? I will also need to learn French so anyone who is looking for English help I'd be happy to team up. Regards, Doug

Hello you all, I am Luxembourger, and I think I should inform you that Live in Luxembourg is extremely expensive. Even the country is small, the rents are higher than in Paris. A little bit less expensive is the regions behind the borders in France; Belgium and Germany, but there the landscape is less nice. It is quite easy to find a job in Luxembourg if you have an university degree, very easy is it when you have an engineering degree especially in informatics. The Luxembourger themselves are very self-contained and it is not so easy to get really contact with them, but when you have once a luxembourgish friend, he will stay your friend for evers. 30% of the population is not luxembourgish, so the international community or better communities are quite important and you may find easily contact there. English is not problem in Luxembourg. The Luxembourg nationals speak almost all 4 languages (french, german, english and luxembourgish), because the are taught in school. So if you have more questions do not hesitate. I am ready to answer them. Greetings from sunny Luxembourg, Françoise

I am planning on not having a home telephone, and I don't want to be paying the earth for calling my friends in Oz and Edinburgh. The other option i to get the internet. Does anyone know if I can get the net for just a couple of months? How long would it take to get set up? Thanks

Hi, We are new expats to Lux from the US, arriving in Jan 07. We love it. I have two teenagers who have adjusted very nicely and are attending the International School. There is a very large American's womens club so you will be able to keep busy with lots of activities. The people are a bit reserved, but very formal, polished and proper. I found that the employees you might deal with are very polite and most speak English if you are in a bind. (Hand signals also work well if your French is like mine!) Compared to the US, it is more expensive. But, the wine, cheese and flowers are a bargain! Enjoy your new home and travels! Best of luck in your new pursuits.

Dear All, I believe this a very useful website speacilly for people who are planning to move Lb soon like me. Currently, I am working in Dubai. As I am a Muslim, I need to know little bit about muslim community and more details about social life, cost of living, etc.
Hi Zeeshan, There are very few Muslims in Luxembourg and it is hard to find Halal food if required. Luxembourg is a small country and it has it advantages and disadvantages. The living of standard is really high, its a value for money country and the cost of living is not so high compare to Paris & London! However since its a small town and many people are moving in it is hard to find a good accomodation!

Hello everybody, I will also be moving to Luxembourg soon, and I was wondering if renting an appartment outside the city (like countryside, town, etc) would be an option. Is the infrastructure good, how about the public transportation, are the other towns and villages well connected to the capital? Also, which neighbourhoods of Luxembourg are nice to live in, which are to be avoided and what is the average rent per month for 1 bedroom appartment is a decent area of the city? Thank you all in advance and hope to talk to you soon. @ sophie29 - Although I am not a native speaker , I would be glad to help you with English, if you would like.

Hello!I am due to move to Luxembourg in October with my German boyfriend to take the bar exams after 6 months of Luxembourg law... We are both international law postgrads but on the look out for something a bit different to start off professional life (hence Lux!)! I would be interested to hear from anyone who went to Lux on a fairly limited initial budget to hear how you got on esp. concerning accomodation (which we are starting to look at now!)- ie best place to live (in Lux City? Just outside? Over the border?)and really all the questions that have already been asked above (good addresses for mid-20 year-olds to meet/eat/drink/dance; question of transport; any pros or cons of taking the Lux bar etc etc etc)?? Thanks to you all and looking forward to arriving soon! Louisa
