Hello everyone I am waiting to hear back from an interview but may be moving to Lux sometime in the next few months or so; I am from the US originally but also have UK citizenship as I've been in London the last 6 years. Would anyone be able to advise on whether a car is mandatory for living in Lux, how easy it may be to find an apartment or whether sharing initially may be preferable, and a bit on the cost of living? I will also need to learn French so anyone who is looking for English help I'd be happy to team up. Regards, Doug

Hey everyone, My name is Alban and i am from Chicago Ill. in the States, originally from Europe. I am 19, which is young yes, but i do want to leave the states and live in Europe after I graduate from college. What fields do you guys think i should study, or what major would be best for a country like Luxemburg. Thanks.

Hello you all, I am Luxembourger, and I think I should inform you that Live in Luxembourg is extremely expensive. Even the country is small, the rents are higher than in Paris. A little bit less expensive is the regions behind the borders in France; Belgium and Germany, but there the landscape is less nice. It is quite easy to find a job in Luxembourg if you have an university degree, very easy is it when you have an engineering degree especially in informatics. The Luxembourger themselves are very self-contained and it is not so easy to get really contact with them, but when you have once a luxembourgish friend, he will stay your friend for evers. 30% of the population is not luxembourgish, so the international community or better communities are quite important and you may find easily contact there. English is not problem in Luxembourg. The Luxembourg nationals speak almost all 4 languages (french, german, english and luxembourgish), because the are taught in school. So if you have more questions do not hesitate. I am ready to answer them. Greetings from sunny Luxembourg, Françoise

Hi all you Luxembourgers!I am an aussie moving to Lux from Edinburgh with work for a couple of months. Can anyone tell me if I can get a mobile phone that comes with free minutes. I am planning on not having a home telephone, and I don't want to be paying the earth for calling my friends in Oz and Edinburgh. The other option i to get the internet. Does anyone know if I can get the net for just a couple of months? How long would it take to get set up? Thanks

Hi, We are new expats to Lux from the US, arriving in Jan 07. We love it. I have two teenagers who have adjusted very nicely and are attending the International School. There is a very large American's womens club so you will be able to keep busy with lots of activities. The people are a bit reserved, but very formal, polished and proper. I found that the employees you might deal with are very polite and most speak English if you are in a bind. (Hand signals also work well if your French is like mine!) Compared to the US, it is more expensive. But, the wine, cheese and flowers are a bargain! Enjoy your new home and travels! Best of luck in your new pursuits.

Dear All, I believe this a very useful website speacilly for people who are planning to move Lb soon like me. Currently, I am working in Dubai. As I am a Muslim, I need to know little bit about muslim community and more details about social life, cost of living, etc.

Hi Zeeshan, There are very few Muslims in Luxembourg and it is hard to find Halal food if required. Luxembourg is a small country and it has it advantages and disadvantages. The living of standard is really high, its a value for money country and the cost of living is not so high compare to Paris & London! However since its a small town and many people are moving in it is hard to find a good accomodation!

Dear all, We will relocate to Luxembourg with my wife and our 3 month old baby. Will it be easy for an English speaking person to arrange school and all the necessary stuff at the beginning?

Hello!I was wondering if anyone is a lawyer working for a law firm - I am contemplating relocating there with the Lux law firm, but am debating. I will be entry-level (fresh out of law school. What is the lifestyle of a lawyer in Lux as compared to the USA? What sort of work hours (billable) exist? oh...so many questions! Any random thoughts would be appreciated. :) Merci.

Hello everybody, I will also be moving to Luxembourg soon, and I was wondering if renting an appartment outside the city (like countryside, town, etc) would be an option. Is the infrastructure good, how about the public transportation, are the other towns and villages well connected to the capital? Also, which neighbourhoods of Luxembourg are nice to live in, which are to be avoided and what is the average rent per month for 1 bedroom appartment is a decent area of the city? Thank you all in advance and hope to talk to you soon. @ sophie29 - Although I am not a native speaker , I would be glad to help you with English, if you would like.

Hello!I am due to move to Luxembourg in October with my German boyfriend to take the bar exams after 6 months of Luxembourg law... We are both international law postgrads but on the look out for something a bit different to start off professional life (hence Lux!)! I would be interested to hear from anyone who went to Lux on a fairly limited initial budget to hear how you got on esp. concerning accomodation (which we are starting to look at now!)- ie best place to live (in Lux City? Just outside? Over the border?)and really all the questions that have already been asked above (good addresses for mid-20 year-olds to meet/eat/drink/dance; question of transport; any pros or cons of taking the Lux bar etc etc etc)?? Thanks to you all and looking forward to arriving soon! Louisa

Hi All, I have just started a job in Luxembourg and at the moment I am in company provided accomodation. I need to find my own place and this is proving a bit of a hassle. Does anyone know someone with a studio or room to rent? I am trying to avoid the gigantic agency fees. Please help if you can. Thanks

Do someone know, maybe somewhere in Luxembourg is regular monthly meeting where meet all people who have moved to Luxembourg, just for information, and to have more friends. If haven't what everybody would tell, if we together would organize this?greets Kristine • Page 1 (Original Post) • Page 2 • Page 3 (Newest Replies) •
