| Questions: Is the car legally mine? Hi I really need an expert answer on this one. I financed a car through smart move auto about 2 years ago. Six months after I bought my car the company went out of business. A new company took over named synergy acceptance located in georgia. For about a year I was making payments to them on time when all of a sudden in March of this year they went out of business. In April I was contacted by a company who said they were synergy acceptance but they moved to california, and their mailing adress is a p.o. box in maryland. I found this to be strange. In addition they told me that I owed more than what I really did so I decided not to pay them because I did not know who these people were. I asked them to provide me with the contract, but they only sent me the same contract smart move sent me when I first got the car two years ago. They provided no proof of owning the loan. I went to the DMV to find out who was the lienholder and was told it was smart move auto. I was instructed to conatact smart move auto and if the letter came back with no forwarding adress I could get the title and drop the lienholder. The letter came back and I recived my title with my name on it only. There is no lienholder on my title. It has been about 6 months, and now all of a sudden the new synergy acceptance is no longer responisble for my loan and I recieved a letter last week from a place called independent dealers advantage llc. IDA is saying that they are now responsible for the loan and that I can make payments to them. This is the third LLC that has supposedly took over my loan. Is this legal? Is the car mine because I have the title in my name with no lienholder, or do I still have to make payments. |
