When my wife and I were in Mauritius for or wedding, we came across the beautiful work of a local female artist (famous in Mauritius). She painted pictures of sega dancers. At the time we couldn't afford her paintings. Now, we would like to buy one to remind us of our wonderful time in Mauritius, but we can't remember her name. Does anyone know who we are talking about and how we can get hold of her paintings? The only other information we can give you is she had a studio near the botanical gardens. Thank you.

LA probably stands for 'L'Atelier' (is the signature a bit 'square'? - then that's it) L'Atelier is a workshop of artists who are commissioned to paint paintings, often for sale to foreigners (through IRS!!). I believe the workshop is run by Helene de Senneville's gallery, which has a branch in Pointe aux Canoniers and another one, I believe, in Port Louis.
