I would like to find information about importing cars to Mexico. I have been told that laws have changed and it is now easier to import used vehicles to Mexico. I currently manage a dealership that sell cars exclusivly online at www.ocpabi.com. We would be interested in importing cars to Mexico depending on how the laws are set up. Any help would be very appreciative.

You are correct in that CAFTA has loosened the laws and lowered the taxes on import autos in Mexico. That means Mexicans will be buying autos in large numbers from the glutted US market.I am an investor working on this project and may be interested in speaking with you.

I have a FM3 visa do I have to keep a current registration to be legal in Mexico from my home state in the U.S. I plan on living full-time in Mexico. Does the Mexico police have a legal right to stop me with expired U.S. tags. Ihave heard that a U.S. car can be imported in La Paz, BAJA SUR, cALIFORNIA

I am considering relocating for the purpose of retirement to Cabo San Lucas, Baja. I want to drive my auto there and keep it for my personal use. What import duties, local registration fees, etc., will I be looking at in order legally keep the car in Mexico. I want to follow all necessary steps so as to comply with national / state / local requirements.....

I want to import my car from CA to Mexico on a permanent basis. It is now registered in CA but I don't want to pay insurance in both CA and Mexico. As it stands right now, if I cancel my CA insurance, they will negate my registration. The vehicle needs to be registered to be valid for importation into Mexico. This is a catch 22. The vehicle is a 1998 so should be valid for importation. I need to know what paperwork needs to be filled out and how much this will all cost. Is it recommended to go to the Mexican Embassy? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

There might still be time to legalize vehicles 1993-1997... The last deadline might be on March 18th, 2008. I work for a company that provides this service, we have until the 13th to pre-apply before arriving at the border. For more info please call 206-577-8425

I am retired here in Mexico on the Baja and want to license my 2 autos here. My wife and I have drivers licenses issued here in Mexico. I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am and a 2000 Chevrolet 1500 Series extended cab shortbed 4 wheel drive pickup. How do I go about getting them licensed and what are the fees involved?

I am a missionary in Guadalajara. I have an fm-3. I have a 1997 Toyota Tocoma. I am plannin on selling this vehicule to a mexican friend. I understand that in order to bring another vehicule in , I will need to return to my origin of entrance, which is Laredo, and remove the registration of this vehicule in Mexico. At this point once I will cross the border, my friend and I will legalize the vehicule in Laredo. I will sell the vehicule to him , giving and signing the title over to him. He will return to Mexico in the vehicule. I will fly to Georgia and purchase another vehicle and eventually in three or four weeks return to Mexico. My question is can we do this? Can we still legalize American vehicules? Is this procedure correct? Will I have any problems entering Mexico in the new vehicule. Thanks for your help. • Page 1 (Original Post) • Page 2 • Page 3 • Page 4 (Newest Replies) •
