Sorry to post this topic here but I'm trying to spread the word about missing British 4yr old, Madeleine Mccann, who was taken from her bed while vacationing in south Portugal. She was spotted in Marrakech on May 9. I don't think much of this news is reaching Morocco so please spread the word and keep an eye out for her.

If there are better sites to reach UK or US ex-patriots on this subject please let me know. thanks.

As-salaam: Finishing Graduate School in 2009 and seriously thinking about living in Morocco for 6 months to a year. I would like to work part time in a hospice and have an apartment that is centrally located in Morocco, so I could travel and see the whole country. I am taking an immersion Arabic program this Summer.

What do I need to do for this transition? I am 61 years old, but don't look or act it. Need to know the price of apartments, need to be near markets, etc.

What information can you give me.

Welcome to a new life in Morocco

I am a British citizen living in Mekne Morocco

I would be more than happy to assist you in all aspects of settling in the country and avoiding the pit falls.

I can guide you from the initial procedures of obtaining reseidency permits to starting up a business, what you need, what you need to avoid and what are the pit falls.

I speak French and Arabic fluently and registered at the British Embassy in Rabat.

Feel free to contact me. Leslie

To Crispin

You are entitled to enter your personal effects and furniture without any customs duties, you would need o have obtained your residency permit before hand with chenge of residence stamped in the country where you were living and legalised at the Moroccan embassy.

For more information about avoiding the pitfalls and expense as well as any motor vehicle you wish to bring in contact me on the above e-mail or telphone office 035 468810 or mobile 018 559060.

Regards

Leslie

To Crispin Sharp

You are entitled to bring your motor vehicle for a period of 6 month, make sure you have insurance to cover morocco or you can buy insurance at the entry point.

The duties are high and to obtain an accurate assement you need to provide the customs a photo copy of your registration log book.

I would recommend that you enter morocco vis Ceuta where the crossing is cheaper and you fill up your tank at lower cost.

Unless you have a power of attorney legalised by the Moroccan consulate ensure that the registration documents are in your name.

If you are driving through Spain be careful where to park or sleep as gangs are operating and targetting foreign vehicles.

I was gassed in the night in my caravan and had a large sum stolen.

Feel free to contact me at anytime for any other assistance.

Tel office 00212 (0)35 468810 mobile 00212(0)18 559060.

Leslie

Hi my family moved to morocco nearly 2yrs ago, I have spent alot of time there. I am back in uk now as i have just had a baby, if you are moving to morocco be carefull not to bring too many electrical goods with you as the police will either charge you an very heavy tax bill or take them off you. Your vehicle must leave Morocco every 3months and people have to leave every 6months, we used to het ferry from tanger to spain get some food in the lidl and come back same day, all you need is a stamp on ur passport.

Hi, my family and I moving to Morroco within the next year from the U.S. Am I correct in believing you only need to leave the country every 3 months with your vehicle in order to reside with it there???

Hello,

I am an American student planning on coming to Morocco for about 5 weeks this summer to do some research. I will need a place to live, preferably with a few other foreigners as I will be traveling by myself. Internet access is very important to me. Is there anything equivalent to a craigslist for Morocco through which I might be able to find someone to live with while I am in Morocco? Or does anyone have other recommendations for a length of this stay (on somewhat of a budget)? Please reply to carolynb64(at)gmail.com.

Thanks

hi all....moving to casa this september for school...fashion school that is....my main concern is how much $ i should put away for living expenses - what is the typical rent per month if i'm sharing with a roomate? how does one go about looking for a female roomate? are there laundromats? should i have any trouble if i speak french from quebec and hardly any arabic besides kaifik and ish 7al? does soy milk exist? how do i get around if i don;t have a car? my main concern really is the money and rent part - basically the cost of life regarding cab rides, rent, groceries, etc etc. any insight would just be awsome. thanks!

Can anyone give me info on retirement communities, obtaining a Morocco medical license, and good locations for a medical practice. I will care for expats and native Moroccans in need. Reference reply 28- I too, like Gary, would like to retire to Tangier on SSDI $1, 000 USD per month. Articles I've read state this can very easily be done. But so far I've made no connections for a place to stay at $200 to $300 per month. Again I've read in these articles that an apartment can be rented for less even than that. Willing to live modestly and will have adult daughter with me. Where could I stay even temporarily after first arriving to a country that is new and foreign to me. I've been to Mexico and understand the usual culture shock when making a major change in lifestyle. 7/8/08
