The fact is that nurses are mostly women who also have the responsibilities of bearing children and being primarily responsible for their upbringing. We we also need to be the primary health care providers for the people of New Brunswick and are approximately 30% short on total staff. Something has to give. We are called numerous times per day for overtime, work 50-60 hr/week, have time off denied, and work short when we are there.

The stories of nurses sitting when the should be doing patient care presume that one must have nose to grind stone 24/7 without pause for thought or recovery. Overtime takes it's toll on productivity.

We love what we do but we need someone to step up and be the hero to turn the light back on in the long tunnel of hope that we will not have to keep working like this the rest of our careers. We fear the care of patients is in jeopardy and that one day it will be a judge who hears our story of unsafe conditions contributing to wrongful patient death.
