I've rented a car and plan on driving from Cambridge, MA, to Gettysburg, PA. Mapquest has me driving through NYC.
Given that this will happen during a weekday, what is the most sanity preserving route in hopes of avoiding traffic congestion and proving myself to be a road hazard to New Yorkers? Also, any suggestions on times to hit certain points.

Hello! I have hired a car and driven through NYC as well. I found the driving rules on the car hire website. It was not so bad as I imagined before and I think during weekends the traffic is not so intensive.
