I have an oil painting signed by M. Obodiwe. It depicts a Yoruba market scene. I am interested in knowing any information about the artist and his work.

About 20 years ago, or more, I bought a painting by Mo Obodiwe. It was first purchased by a teacher, who moved back to the states. He had had it appraised, and it appraised at $160.00 at that time. I think I paid no more than $10.00 for it. It does not look like a reproduction.

I don't think it was oil, it kinda looks like chalk, so I would think it was tempra paint, but not sure. I like the picture a lot, and have had it hanging on my wall ever since I bought it. Everyone likes it, and makes comments on it when they come to my house.

It is of a market scene. The woman in the foreground has a red top, with a dark blue and light blue stripe skirt. The next woman has a large basket or bowl on her head, with her arm up holding it. The rest of the women are facing the other way. Most of their clothing is blue, so I suppose they came from a tribe, or community that wore blue. It also has tan, and that is most of the colors in the picture.

The teacher also had a lot of beads from Africa, and I bought an oblong red one, and wear it on a gold chain
