hello anamika, i suppose u and ur friend are from india. presently i am in lagos, nigeria and researching film and tv here, about my oppinon about comming to nigeria would be firstly, which company is calling, if it is an indian company then it is suggested to come, as here lots of indian (expatriates) people r there. so he/she may not face any problem or diffucilty in living, but let him/her know that he/she should think and plan before comming here because here difficulties are more for expatriates. but if u r getting a good offer then only u should think of comming here, otherwise it is not a right decesion to come here, if the person is talented and he/she is ready to come then let him/her come and try, bcoz it is not that bad too, just u hav to adjust ur self as a nigerian, saftey also depends upon the company. i mean u should check before comming, bcoz it can be a problem also, bcoz both sides of things can happen, here everything depends upon the status, that means company for which u r comming.

i hope u get my view.

HI ALL

I GOT AN OFFER FROM LAGOS NIGERIA IN CITI GROUP HOW IS LIFE THERE THEY R PAYING ME $21690 PER MONTHS IS THIS ANY RACKET OR FRAUD CASE CAN ANY ONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS

THANKYOU

Reply #17 Bubba from deep in your mind -

If that is a US dollar salary I would think that would be more than sufficient to live anywhere in the world!

If you are asked to pay a fee for something, then you can almost be guaranteed it is a scam, racket or fraud. To put it another way, if you are led along needing to pay various fees you will probably pay fees for as long as they can string you along.

Since it is a well known U.S. based company why not contact their headquarters in the USA to check out the offer?

Generally life in nigeia is good except that you do not flout your money around and get into trouble.

make sure that you get a proper contract with all details clearly specified.

Indian owned company are very good at offering the earth and putting you in a fix once you land up there.

Be careful of a company Infinity Tyres Ltd, at Victoria Island Lagos. They will make you work like slaves and will only pay you peanuts and will never appreciate your work ever.

Do not depend on the Indian High commision for any thing other than renewing your passport.they are only good for that.

Hello All,

I am a Nigerian and i want to respond to your enquiries.

If you have been offered any job and told to pay any money, then it is FRAUD.

If you get an offer for a job without any formal test or interview then it is FRAUD.

For those who have gotten legitimate jobs, kindly go to the Nigerian Embassey in your country to find out about the company.

Nigeria is very safe and we have quite a large number of Indian communities as well, so for people of indian descent do not have any problem whatsoever, they also have their own school and community.

We Nigerians are very hospitable and warm people however like any other country there are some bad eggs among us, you just need to exercise the same caution you would exercise in any foreign or strange land.

Sade

I agree totally with Mr Sade.I am sure he is well acquianted with the Indian Community.

But what he has not said that the Indian community is very clanish and have a bit of a nose up in the air attitude.

they do not realise that they are in the host country and should behave so.

nigerians as Sade says are very nice and tolerant people who have been taken for a ride by both thier top people and the many expats who are milking the country.

this is the real reason that thier is so much hatered for the exploiter from the starving millions.

My humble advise is to treat every Nigerian like he should be as it is his birthright.

All expats should put back some of the money the earn back into Nigeria rather than sending the whole money out of the counry.

I have a very soft corner for Nigeria and I wish them well.

Good work Mr Sade

Oh Indians or any Non Nigerians . Is it really difficult to understand that it's a fraud when somebody asks for pating the some processing fee in advance? Where at all urs sence goes after reading a unrealitic salary. With or without interview.

Why not trus for the rasonability? Asking for the advice means atkeast half beleiving that it is true. Wake up. Why at all 60000 indians came back to India. Give a thought and keep informed your friends too that these unrealistic salaries and the fee demands and our enxiety for that are all false.

Hi to all ,

even i got offer from nigeria company. I sent my biodata and got phone from those people, about work locations & salary (tax free, accomodations, car, visa, ticket etc etc...).

I m also impressed with the help given by Armanila & Sade. Thanks to both of u as u don't know, your every word count to us. 1st thing we have to serve others the same how we want to get serve. couple of years back we also got fraud offer from USA, who told us to pay fees. Listen if they want us than they have to pay the fees so keep in mind if any monetary talks comes than it is fraud.

I think in Nigeria indian life is there, even Indian Language school is there, and also temples r there so no problem if u don't give problem to anybody

thanks

HEY AZEEZ / ARATHY

YOU BOTH HAVE RECEIVED SCAM E-MAILS. DO YOU GUYS THINKS THAT THE EMPLOYERS ARE SO STUPID TO HIRE ANYONE FOR THESE TYPES OF SALARIES WITHOUT PROPER INTERVIEWS..?

I AM SURE YOU MUST HAVE NOT EVEN APPLIED FOR THESE JOBS.

THESE NIGERIAN SCAMSTERS REGISTER AS EMPLOYERS ON SITES SUCH AS timesjobs.com, naukri.com, monster.com, THEY THEN CAN ACCESS DETAILS OF ALL THOSE REGISTERED AS EMPLOYEES & SEND THEM SUCH SCAM MAILS.

SURE AS "Bubba from deep in your mind" SAID YOU WILL ONLY SEND THEM MONEY & GET NOTHING IN RETURN..

IF YOU HAVE EXTRA MONEY BETTER GIVE IT TO SOME CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION.

CHEERS..

HEY GUYS,

HERE IS A PIECE OF INFO I FOUND ON A WEBSITE;

Nigerian Job Scams: There are so many companies and con artists in Nigeria doing oil employment scams now that we don't even know where to start. Here's what they do. They find the email addresses of job seekers through various means. Then they email them acting like an oil company employer. They make the letter they send to the job seeker look all official, making it look and sound like an oil employment contract. The the con-artist basically tell the job seeker that they're going to be hired on to an oil company. They list all the details about the job, the pay, the location, and things of this nature to make it look legitimate. Then what they do is they tell the job seeker that if they want the job all they have to do is sign the oil employment contract and fax it to their office. But they also tell them that they require a application fee, or processing fee of anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. They assure the job seeker that the job is 100% guaranteed and waiting for them to start on, but that they need to have the money to cover costs and things of that nature. So victims unknowingly send in there money and sign this fake employment contract. Then they basically never hear from the con-artist again. So if you ever get a letter asking you for money, in exchange for a guaranteed job which is waiting for you to start on as long as you pay the fee, please know that it's completely bogus fraud! Especially if it has anything to do with Nigeria. I have nothing against that country but I think out of desperation they are ruining there countries reputation. Especially when you hear about all these 411 and 419 scams from Nigeria as they are called. It's too bad really as they have a big oil industry but you'd never ever know who to trust as there's too many scams out there. As a rule of thumb if you're ever approached and they ask for a fee in exchange for a 100% guaranteed job then they're simply bogus.

Do you think anyone will give you a job with an execessive salary out of the blue without a interview? No way.

But when you chase the dream of $20, 000 a month salary... you might send a couple hundred or thousand dollars for a visa or something else.

Of course that money will not be sent for your benefit, but for the benefit of the criminals that are scamming you.

There isn't anyone in the world that will pay you a salary of US$27250 a month... probably not for anything and especially not site unseen. If it was real you would not have to pay $1750 for visas or anything else.

Send the $1750 and the BEST you can hope for is that they don't ask for another $1750. You can be sure there is no job, no visa, nothing but a pit to put your money in for scammer!

I am an Indian staying in Nigeria for past few years.

Trust me Nigeria is a great place to live. - the Nigerians are very hospitable and peaceful people just like we Indians. After all, everyone wants to be treated right.

There are several dos and donts for first timers on any foreign soil, so respect the laws and its people of Nigeria as well.

Expect only a 20-40% rise over your present Indian salary and 10-25% ovr any gulf/european salary to begin with. Delete all job emails that ask u to pay ANYTHING upfront. No telephonic interview, No real job, man.

all the best.

Dear All,

Please check the Authenticity of the Offer Document with the Nigerian Embassy before taking any decision. The same can turn to be disastrious, if you are asked to pay the Work Permit fees through Bank Transfer or Cheques in advance, ranging from 60, 000 INR to 80, 000 INR.

Most of these Offers are Fraud Offers. No Company in this world will offer you a job without an Interview.

Hey Senthil Kumar, Mukesh Patel, Balakrushna Sahu, Asif Iqbal, Raja, Sachin, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Rajiv Thakrele & the likes of you,

Are you all serious about going to Nigeria based on these E-mail Job Offers... You all must be really stupid people...

You guys should be worried about the authenticity of the job offers/contracts & the persons/agencies you receive these from. Safety in Nigeria & other issues are irrelevant when the job offer E-mails you receive are just scam mails. Read all the messages posted here. Lots of other people also have received identical job offers with fantastic salaries of $ 20, 000/- These people have posted their messages here. This is just tip of the iceberg.

Now imagine how many thousands & millions of people all over the world must have received such job offers from Nigeria.... Does this make any sense to you....? Use your common sense....

Check with you brothers, sisters, friends, colleagues, classmate, your other relatives & their friends & relatives who have an E-mail account. Chance is that nearly 99% of those people must have received these types of Job offers from Nigeria or other countries.

Below is an article I found on some other web-site…

"NIGERIAN JOB SCAMS: - There are so many companies and con artists in Nigeria doing oil employment scams now that we don't even know where to start. Here's what they do. They find the email addresses of job seekers through various means. Then they email them acting like an oil company employer. They make the letter they send to the job seeker look all official, making it look and sound like an oil employment contract. The con-artist basically tells the job seeker that they're going to be hired on to an oil company. They list all the details about the job, the pay, the location, and things of this nature to make it look legitimate. Then what they do is they tell the job seeker that if they want the job all they have to do is sign the oil employment contract and fax it to their office. But they also tell them that they require an application fee, or processing fee of anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. It's too bad really as they have a big oil industry but you'd never ever know who to trust as there are too many scams out there. As a rule of thumb if you're ever approached and they ask for a fee in exchange for a 100% guaranteed job then they're simply bogus."

And remember the job scams are not limited only to oil industry. It is in all other field like Hotel, Hospital, Education...

Also try helping other people known to you who must have received similar Job Offers.

Cheers…

I'm in Lagos (Nigeria) for the last 5 years (2 yrs during my bachelorhood & 3 yrs after marriage with family).

This is for all those people who are getting job offer in 5 figures, beaware!!!

These are fraudsters at work who will offer you highly lucrative jobs (out of nowhere without any formal interview or whatsoever) and later claim some paper processing fee (visa, permit etc.). Its a trap!!!

Ideally the payment structure of an authentic job offer in nigeria varies from $2000 to $ 5000 (packaged) or broken into $ Savings + Local currency out of it. Other benefits like furnished accomodation, vehicle, housekeeper & house security is a mandatory additional.

Living expenses are very high here, so higher the local salary, better it is. For bachelor naira 75, 000 is ok & for family between 100, 000 to 200, 000 (depending upon the size of the family).

Those with kids, there is a good CBSE affilited school in lagos, with indian teachers (School fees are paid by the company).

Security wise, expats are not suggested to go out by dusk. Daytime main bindas ghoomne ka.

Ritesh :)

Dear friends,

please wake up!! Please donīt respond to any job offers you get via email from Nigeria (or even any other country) !! These are all scams for godīs sake. They just want to get you to pay hefty some of money and then they are never to be heard of!! Without exception, job offers received in emails are scams. Nigeria is the biggest and almost only country that runs multi-billion scam processes!! They have been going on since years now. Read about that on internet, educate your friends but donīt fall for them ever.. Friends... in a country where millions earn as low as $1/Week, how can they offer you a job for $21000/month? Use your brain and common sense. As low as $1000 is a lot of money even in the US, let alone poor nations like Nigeria!! And all those friends who are told to send money to process their "VISA" applications and Air ticket can be sure to not hear from their "employers" ever again... Please donīt become greedy and lose your money and peace!! You never get anything that you donīt deserve so think what did you do to deserve such a generous job offer!!! The best thing to do....educate anyone you know about these scams and whenever you get on in your inbox.. simply delete without even opening them!!

Moreover,

i am really saddened by the fact that at least one (if not more) of the naive people alone on this page must have finally fallen for the "offers" and sent their money!!

so sad!

Let these nigerian scammers be damned!!

Guys,

Its now clear that this is all a big scam. As suggested one way is to ignore these mails. But sure some naive people will fall for it.Thwere should be a way to counter these. We Indians are not as dumb as these fraudsters think.so lets try to devise a way to counter these.May be send the job letters received to the Nigerian embassy and let them sort it out.

Reply #155 Bubba from deep in your mind -

I agree (i'm not Indian) though I'v never see the Nigerian Embassy in the USA give a hoot about the scams from their country.

Yeah, they have some anti scam notices on their website, but basically blame it on greedy victims.

All the fraud coming out of Niergia will keep them some making any progress economically in the world today.

I tried checking on the internet about such hospital but can't locate it. After a few exchange of words with the employer, he asked me to pay for visa fee..hmmmm NO WAY! all interviews took place in US--i was asked to pay for nothing out of my own pocket-i kept my passport always--i never wrote a personal check or kept a credit card-The government had to clear me that no Nigerian was qualified to take that job--therefore i could be hired--Permission to bring any family member or friend had to be cleared thru government. Car-jackings were frequent-- police roadblocks for money were frequent-- robberies were frequent--419s and otherscams were frequent.Generators fo power very expensive to maintain-- shopping at local markets sometimes scarey. area boys tried to be intimidating--election times were violent.

137 Naira equaled $1.00 then --

our rent for house was $3, 000 US per month on a secured compound on lekki pennisula

driver $300 US per month plus overtime

cook/steward $200 US

Nigeria expensive to live in--you should be certain all job offers are valid

Hello to those asking for safety,

I am a nigerian i live in nigeria but i sometimes travel to burkina faso and some nearby countries to see things and work too. Coming to nigeria, is not a problem but the only problem is your comportment, if you are welbehaved, you don't make trouble in the area that you stay you won't have any problem, life is a little bit cost, both since you are coming based on working with an association or company i don't think that is any problem because your company will sponsor that, there are poor people in nigeria yet they live, there are jobless people but still they survive so i don't think that is a difficult task for you, if you are also coming with your family, that is even more safe for you, be friendly to those around and i belt you, you won't regret your stay in nigeria, nigeria you will acqire so many experience that you will not forget in your life time, forget about the crisis and riot and the rest of them. Just come and you will be the most secure person, Nigerians like foreigners so with that they will look after you and your family, and if you are single they will even find you a good partner that will take good care of you. But if you are coming look at your pocket.

Hello to everybody.

I got a job offer from Nigeria Madona Teaching Hospital. I have already seen that several people also were offered this job by the same person. The employer offers me a job of a teacher for his children and wife. The same story is repeated, isn't it?

These people must be punished.

So be careful and think much before you make a decision.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I have been living and working in Nigeria for over twenty years and found this page when doing some research into companies. I am amassed by your questions. Nigeria is a place where it can be safe or can be very dangerous. If you are working for a good company you will be safe as you can be in any third world country. There are areas where you do not go and areas where you do go. If someone is offering you a job without an interview, forget it. No company operates like that here or anywhere in the world. If you come here then you have to be able to satisfy the Nigerian Immigration Authorises that who you are working for has an expat quota and that company is responsible for you. Not all companies have expat quotas and without one, no company in Nigeria can employ a non Nigerian.

Is it safe, on the whole yes. There are armed gangs who carry out crimes, there are kidnappings of people by armed gangs, there is car jacking but these are not every day events. If you are careful and watch where you go and how and what time you travel, you will be safe.
