We are looking into relocating to the area from South Africa. I am an American and my husband is British. I was born and raised in Charlotte, NC, therefore moving back to my roots. We are looking at the coastal areas as the temperatures will be about the same as where we live at the present time. We are both in our 50's and 60's and work from home. Mike does Internet copy writing and websites, I do research and I also have a business which I will have to began from scratch again as the equipment will be too expensive to ship, plus the voltage is much different. I hand craft solid wood furniture cottage/beach style and would like to carry on with this when settled in NC. We are most likely going to have to rent some place for a short or long term as the difference in money exchange. As it works out we get a lot more for our money over here, but the situation politically is getting rather tense. This is what is motivating our anticipated change. To give you an example, we have an 18.5 acre farm with two residences, 1 main house and 1 smaller cottage and we paid the equivalent of $75, 000. I wanted to ask you, as you own property there at the coast, perhaps you know of someone in the area who is not really looking to sell, but perhaps they too want a change in scenery and would like someone to live on the premises and manage the operation and oversee the day to day operations.
If you would like to know about who we are and what we are all about, please look at our website, www.themasons.co.za, it is here that you learn more about us and in fact more than you really want to know, but this is who we are. Our lives is an open book and we hide nothing. My personal business website is www.woodcrafts.co.za, and it is here that you will be able to see some of the items I hand craft. We are both very keen to be welcomed into a community that is friendly, warm, nonjudgmental and will accept us as part of their community. We do like to entertain and welcome guests into our home and enjoy good times. We do not "party" all the time and there is never any loud music to contend with except for maybe the occasional Jazz or Opera.
We would have to have a rather fast and powerful internet connection, as the work my husband does can be done from anywhere in the world, this is why we can do it from home and do not have to have the overhead expense of an outer office. We also do not like driving at night, but only on occasion, if we have been out to visit others as we both have night blindness, and the rush hour traffic we have to contend with here is a donkey cart or cattle being moved from one camp to the other.
I trust I have not bored you to tears, but because we really don't have anyone in the area to help us, we thought you might be able to either pass this along to someone who can help or guide us into the right direction. Thanking you in advance for your kind assistance and your valuable time. I do look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Yours Sincerely,
Liz Mason
