We are planning to retire to Nova Scotia in the near future. We are currently living in England. My husband is British and I am dual citizen (British and Canadian). We have heard so many conflicting reports about the weather in N.S. Since I am from Toronto I don't really have a feel for the weather on the East Coast. Recently we heard it rains most of the time and is very foggy. Would love to hear from anyone knowledgeable about the weather and areas that might be a bit milder. Thank you.

Yes I would like to know much more about weather in NS.year around - lots of rain? , foggy?, 5 in. or 5 ft. of snow? What about winter storms, ice roads?, windy?. My wife and I going to NS this summer to check this province,as we are looking for place to retire. Bogdan

I just have to ask....Bogdan, did you get to Nova Scotia this summer? If so, what did you think??I've lived here most of my life, and i wouldn't live anywhere else! Mostly because of the people. You ask anyone that's been here on vacation, and i bet you 95 % of them will say they can't get over how friendly people here are. The winter is pretty easy. Here on the East coast we usually don't see snow until Nov/Dec, and it pretty well winds down in April. We'll generally receive one or two bad storms with alot of snow every winter. Myself, i live in the Annapolis Valley with my family. We have lots of fruits and vegs grown here as the weather is ideal in the summer for agriculture. There is alot of pride and community spirit in the towns in the Valley. Do some checking on the web....you'll find lots of interesting tidbits about NS. I'm sure you'd love it here! As for the rain and fog here all the time, that's definately NOT TRUE! The weather is pretty typical here....and if it was that foggy and rainy, the agriculture wouldn't survive here! Anyhow, i hope you could at least get here and check it out in person before you make a decision. Cheers!

Is the Canadian Government going to allow US Citizens to retire in Canada?

we are travelling to Nova Scotia mid October for two weeks for the first time. We are dual citizens (Cdn/Brit). I lived in Toronto for many years, and now looking for a permanent base, and very much hoping it may be N.S. We can hardly wait for our visit to N.S. as we have heard many good things about the province. Our first stop will be Halifax for a couple of days, then onto Wolfville and the Annapolis Valley, and then the East coast at some point. I understand education is very good, as I have teenagers who will need to finish their education at college. Most of all we are so looking forward to meeting people in N.S. Comments other people have made in this particular website are very encouraging.

The weather is great , on the South Shore is on average the warmest annual temp in Canada . Snow is usually gone within one week of falling because of the warming by the Atlantic Ocean. There is fog in areas but it runs in belts so make sure your place is "above" the fog belt . We have a great house on the ocean at middle laHave that is a very desirable retirement location, especially if you plan to sail and golf. give me a call 902 766 0376 or email chesterp@eastlink.ca cheers

I was born in Nova Scotia Bridgewater but lived in Brooklyn on the south shore of nova scotia .I have lots of family there .lots of wind Fog, Rain , cold winters , I lived there a good part of my life untill I went to Duncan B.C. on Vancouver island 18 years ago for the record every 10 years a big snow storm , no fog, not much rain and the rain is warm not cold to the bones like nova scotia .The people are nice its heaven the things for programs for retirement people to do and people live on little houses on the water around here on Vancouver Island Victoria is 45 minutes away from Duncan with breath taking views .Look on thge internet for the warmest place in Canada in winter times .When i first moved to this town there was flowers and Palm trees on the streets in Feburary i just could not believe what i was seeing .If you don't believe that call someone in Duncan and asked them a Question You will wish you have before ever moving to Nova Scotia . • Page 1 (Original Post) •
