Anyone interested in purchasing work by the late Leo "Deraleo" Chandler? I have a couple of obscure pieces I am willing to let go.

I have a painting by Leo Chandler, also, a 48"x60" which is predominantly blue,an arrangement of tones of blue kind of like a deck of cards spreak in a rose pattern.Do you know of anyone else who owns some work by Leo? I'm not necessarily looking to sell mine, just wondering if there's a market for it. Thanks, J. DeShong

I knew Leo when he was in the Oklahoma State Prison in McAlister. I was a young tv reporter/photographer and did a documentary on him and his art. I understood that film helped Brad Place from TU convice the parole board to release him. That would have been 1972 or 73. Several months after his release I received a package that included a piece he did that I had commented on. He said it was experimental and might end up falling off the canvas. I still have it over my fire place. It looks like an impressionistic forest fire and was done with a palet knife. I had often wondered what happened to leo. He had quite a life.

Leo was my uncle, and I have several of his paintings, and would love to find out if anyone is interested in selling any of his art?

Tina, I don't want to sell any of Leo's paintings but wonder which ones you have. I only have one and mom has a few more in Ft. Worth Thanks, Terry

We have a large painting he did. It is tourquois color background with an american flag and a body sitting on some step with law books behind it and the sea with dice in it. It also has a clothsline with a shirt and a head of hair resembling Rod Stewarts hair cut. It was bought in Tulsa sometime after 1975 when it was painted at a Kanchi auction. Its very unusual and I don't want to sell ours.

I'm interested in Leo Darrell Chandler's painting that he was standing behind in the Feb 8, 1973, Clinton Oklahoma News article about the traveling art show. It's of a man in overall's bent over getting a drink from a water fountain. My grandmother has had this article for years because the man in the painting looks like her father.

I have a painting, titled The Door, 23 1/4" x 33 1/8", by Leo Darrell Chandler. It's a 3 dimensional painting on wood, with a lock and hasp. This painting was done while he was in Mc Callister State prison. If you know anyone interested in purchasing this painting, please email me. Thanks!

When I was around 10 or 12 I was one of Leo's student's. He taught some drawing and pastel classes in which my mother enrolled me. He was very influential in my life as I went on to have a career in advertising as an Art Director. The only art I own of Leo's is a limited edition lithograph diploma he gave me when I finished his pastels class. He included a personal note which always touched me an encouraged me. I've earned an associates degree, a bachelors and two masters degrees since, but the diploma I received from Leo has always meant so much more to me. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
