Greetings:I am considering relocating to Oman for employment. As I have a dog, I would like to know if it is feasible to bring her with me. If anyone has experience traveling to Oman or living in Oman with a dog, could you pleae contact me. I've contacted the embassy and dogs are "allowed" in Oman, I just want to know what the local attitudes are towards dogs, and if I will be able to take her, for example, to the beach, or to a park. Thank you for your time. Trackbacks

Hi Theresa,I have relocated to Oman about 6 months ago and am yet to see a dog being taken for a walk by anyone except a western expat. I have not seen any dogs on the beach sofar as I guess there aren't that many. But people are open to pets as there are several pet clinics here. But there are no restrictions as such to taking your dog for a walk on the road/on the beach. There are lots of open spaces where your dog may love to go fr walks depending on the area you plan to live in. hope this helps.

Hi, yes there Vets in Muscat... there are Kennels also. they charge about r.O 5/= per day for a dog and r.o 3/= per day for a cat.. One such place is PET CARE ( 00 968 95204228) You have pet shops also... there are some restrictions of taking a dog for a walk in the gardens and parks , but not so in the beaches, as many locals are not used to it. all the Malls have a seperate sections for the Pet food etc. sure you will have all the brands like Pedgree/pudin etc... shouldnt be a prob All the best.. enjoy your stay in muscat... regards, Murali

I'm moving to Oman. I've travelled there quite frequently, so I've had a chance to check out things. I now have a house and two cars. Regarding pets, I have two dogs and a cat. I'm going through the process now. Does anyone know if they need a "B-Chip"? Also, I saw that someone said Western dog food was available in Oman, but they didn't mention the price. We found the price rather outrageous for good dog food. It's about $75 for a 16 Kg bag - which is found only in specialty pet shops - except small stuff for toy sized dogs available at most large grocery chains, which is why we're packing a year's worth in our shipment. Dry cat food is available anywhere as long as you like "Friskies"... So we're packing a years worth of good cat food as well. If anyone has a better line on where to get good quality food at a reasonable price (for medium and large dogs), let me know.

It is quite simple to bring house pets into Oman, but it is necessary to follow the correct procedure. The best thing to do is to get an import form from the nearest Omani Embassy. The pet will need to be microchipped and have a passport. You will need to work with your vet in order to do all the paperwork and shots that are required. And just prior to leaving your country to come to Oman, you will need to visit one of your Government Vet for a certification that the pet is healthy. There is an excellent Australian vet in Muscat (Azaiba area) named Louise Waters. She can also help you with any questions about bringing pets into the country. Her website is www.tafani-vets.com and her email address is posted there.
