Did you make it to Muscat? I work at ABA "An IB World School", and can say that living here is quite good. Drop me a line if you are in town, and maybe we can meet up.

I am thinking of moving to Oman some point in the next 12 months, Can any one give me some info on the standard of living and etc:

average salary in the hotel sales sector( was offered around RO 650 monthly)- how does this compare?

accomodation: the company advised that RO 100 a month is sufficient to rent a one bed apartment in decent area. Is this so?

night life?

getting around muscat: i just passed my driving test, and again they will contribute RO 40 towards the car upkeep a month.is it safe to drive? is the allowance enough?

how much a small second hand decent car will cost?

Mobile Phones: are they expensive to run, what is the average monthly contract ?

Also: I am a single woman, am I going to fit it?

Many thanks for your help in advance, Fast response is appreciated as need to make a decision!

Georgie

Can any one tell me about living in Oman.

How much i will have to spend on the following per month.

1) Food

2) Residence

Secondly if i get a room or appartment on rent, should i have to pay on monthly basis or on yearly basis?

Where I can start if I want to find a job. Is it worth to live there, is it expensive, do they pay good. What about the health care. Please if somebody has the answers of these questions he can help me with them.

Thanking you,

I am an Indian, a senior Civil Engineer. Discussions are going on for a job of Resident Engineer for a construction project (I'll be the seniormost member of the team) in or around Muscat. Company will provide free accomodation, transport, and medical facilities. I shall stay alone, but at times my wife will visit.

How much salary in O. R. may I expect at the minimum (please remember i am an Indian, not an American), which should allow me stay decently and make good savings. If the company talks about "cost to the Company" (CTC), then I also need to know the costs of accomodation, car rental, food and other normal expenses.

Please advise here or in my e-mail ID: saumitraray@yahoo.com.

Saumitra Ray
