Simple Accommodation: $400/week

Transportation: $100/week

Basic Food: $70/week

This answer is for single people aspiring expats, particularly from the Indian Subcontinent.

Please dont think about the cost of living when planning to relocate from the sub continent. Living cost is peanuts if you know what kinda employer you are choosing. For a qualified expat, all the expenses are borne by the company.Else are included (added) in the pay packet. So instead of wasting time grab the best and make the best out of it.

Hi there,

Usually in Muscat, if you are working for a company(depends on which one), they provide with a furnished apartment - this depends on your contract with them. If they are providing you accommodation, I am sure they would surely give you basic furniture. Otherwise you will have to buy furniture not

rent it. You will have to go around town and buy it from various places to fit in your budget.

Rent for a 1 bed room apartment ranges from 150 rials to 250 rials a month. You might get something cheaper, if you go towards hamriya, ruwi, wadikabir area etc.

Water electricity per month usually comes to around 30-35 rials a month. If company flat, they should pay for it.

You could own a car on a loan and pay 85 rials per month - depending on the make of the car. Petrol is cheap here, you don't need to worry about that. If you are in sales, you will spend about 30rials a month depending on how much you

drive.

Indian international license in not valid for driving here. You will have to reapply and take classes and appear for the test. People usually pass only after 3rd or 4th test. Some pass in the first one. Just luck I guess. Cost 250 rials onwards.

If all of the above is covered by your company, then your expenses would only be as mentioned below.

Groceries usually cost about 100 omani rials a month for a family of 3.

Besides the above mentioned, eating out in normal restaurants comes to around 3 rials for a couple for a meal - it could be cheaper or more expensive depending on the restaurant class.

You could get a Tiffin service (thali) at one of the Indian restaurants here for rials 20 onwards for one time meal.

Oman is an extremely nice place for family. Career wise its not very advancing but its the perfect place to spend time with your family, save money and relax. Oman is honestly quite laid back.

There are a few free to air channels but mostly Arabic. You could get a pehla connection starting from 7rials depending on the package you opt for. Or you get a dish tv connection & the set top box from India and that should work here (illegally ) of course.

to get a land line at home, you either need to pay deposit starting r.o.100/- (depending on whether you want local call or also international calls) or you could have your company write a letter and no deposit will be required. Your company PRO would help you in that.

Try & negotiate with them further. Do they give early bonus, incentives etc. Will they also provide you with family status meaning visa for the wife & kid. what kind of accommodation will they provide - 1 bedroom flat at least. How about annual vacation ticket cost for the entire family. find out all this prior to deciding? (this information is for everyone)

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum. I want someone of you to help me. I saw the cost of living details of Oman in the earlier replies. I have an offer for 170 Rials per month. Company has agreed to provide me accomodation, food and transport. They also offer 30 days annual paid leave and free to & fro air ticket to home town. Water & electricity charges will be borne by the company at the bachelor accomodation.

I would like to know whether I can save a good amount of money and also the life in a bachelor's accomodation in Oman provided by the company.

You have given an fair bit of idea about the cost of living.

I want to elaborate on it:

I have got an offer for RO 675 pm plus annual bonus minm RO 2400 per annum. Apart from this company will give full furnished accomodation for family, car with petrol allowances(once i get licence), free medical for self, spouse & 2 kids, return fare to india once in a year.

Can you give me an idea what will be the cost of living including water bills, electricity bills, telephone & other utility bills to be pai in Oman; fooding for 2 and how much can i save?

I (Indian) am an engineer with MBA and in the mid thirtees. Have over 11 years of experience. Presently in Qatar.

I am now considering on offer from a company in Oman for a Business Development position.

I would appreciate if someone can help me with the following:

1. Rent for a 2BHR apartment in Ruwi/Muscat

2. Monthly living expenses for a family of 2 (myself and wife)

3. Cost (approx) of a brand new car, say, Toyota Corolla

4. Average monthly Water & Electricity bill for a family of 2?

For a person with above backgound, what would be a reasonable salary in Oman?

If you are getting RO.400.000 in any one of the Omanian company provided they should provide you middle class (Indian sedan)car, Single accomodation, ticket during joining & later, visa, medical, insurance, mobile(Except your food & entertainment) which is the normal cost for Single bachelor living

I have a job offer from a leading company in Bahrain who are settling up operations in Muscat.

They have offered OMR 725 + Car with petrol + Phone + 4% Annual sales commission & the other normal stuff like ticket, medical cover etc.

Is this is good deal for an Engineer with about 3 years sales exp. (2 yrs in India, 1 year in Bahrain)?
