I have been trying to find information on Europeans or Westerneres living in Karachi, as my daughter is considering a relocation there - she is Canadian and Christian. Is there ANYONE out there who is able to share experiences?

I grew up in a wonderful Karachi, in the 60s and 70s, It was tolerant, clean , upbeat, very international and exciting. I spent a number of years in the 90s, and though live in the US now , visit it every year. The attachment to Karachi is personal, ... Love it till I die... but the reality is that it is a very differnt and difficlut place to live in .Crime is rampant , daily life for everyone, especially the poor and middle class, is an agonizing, struggle..... Most expats go there with their eyes open and learn to cope .The interesting thing is that many are sad to leave and return to their own countries.....I would still recommend...go there its an experience. you will never forget. ....

I am on the point of accepting a teaching job in Karachi. I am of Pakistani origin, but I grew up in the UK. Any advice would be great. How is it for families? I have 2 young kids.

I am currently in Karachi airport waiting to board my flight to London, Heathrow.Internet use in the departure lounge is free.I would have to say living in Karachi is very difficult, there are mosquitoes everywhere, it is scorching hot, some areas smell really bad. Poverty is rampant, I must have been approached by a thousand beggars in the five weeks I have been here. There are rats everywhere, my father lives on the 3rd floor of a block of flats and people generally throw garbage from the roof. There is also a constant shortage of electricity and water, generally the electricity goes out at random here.

But if you can cope with these generally the place is not that bad and things here are very cheap.

So if you wanna challenge the devil come visit Karachi.

i guess i can offer some helpful tips on living and working in pakistan. I have lived in the usa half of my life and the other half i have spent in pakistan.

a good book to read before coming here would be "culture shock, pakistan"

available everywhere, just google it

i would also suggest if you are accepting a job here then rent an apartment in the defence area of karachi which is peaceful. move around in groups and contact your embassy for tips on working here.
