For those of you who have been to Panama, what type of business would you suggest opening there? I know that it is mainly a tourist spot in Panama City but there must be some types of businesses that are needed and wanted there as well as the tourist business. The reason I am asking is because I have a friend who is planning to go there and have a look at the potential for opening a business and I thought if I could give him some information prior to his going that it would enable him to make a better judgment. On the same subject, what is the potential for Real Estate salespeople? Are there many small realtors to be found, or are there mainly large firms of realtors in the big cities that are represented throughout the country? I'm looking to open a branch of my own company if possible.

Well, I guess the business depends on your target audience. Do you want to cater to the residents of Panama or the tourists?

You can start a jewelry business. Th tourists love to buy jewelry and I'm sure the resident will buy , too. But, you need to do lots of research.

My suggestion would be to open up something that is more native to Panama. This would attract the locals and the tourists.Jewellery business is always good no matter where it's opened up as long as the prices are good. I know whenever I travel one of the first things I look for is good deals on jewellery.

I always love to buy jewelry when I'm on vacation. I buy a lot of jewelry in Mexico, I get a lot of great deals down there. So I think a jewelry business would be a good idea to start out with.

What kind of jewelry are you talking about? High end jewelry or those bracelets and necklaces (mainly made out of shells) that you can find for sale on the beaches?

LOL! I'm with Karen. That's what I was about to ask. Were you thinking jewelry as in higher-end gold and gems? Or were you going to make jewelry so it would have a more Panamanian feel?
