Fried Plantain
Recipes and Food from Panama.

I have often wondered how to deal with Plantain. I have seen it in the stores and wondered what to do with it. I have now found a recipe for Fried Plantain.Cut plantain into lengthwise strips Fry in pan, medium heat with vegetable oil until strips are lightly browned. Put cooked plantain strips onto platter with paper towel to "drain" Sprinke plantain lightly with sugar. This is a recipe from Ann Marti's kitchen in the CZone and sounds absolutely delicious. Hey... how about putting the link next time so we can find all her good recipes. However, I take issue with one bit of this recipe. No need to sprinkle any sugar on them... they are very sweet and delicious when fried until slightly brown. Maybe sure you use the ripe plantinos and not the green ones. Although they look like Bananas they are nothing of the sort. Green or ripe, they are very bitter when raw (and some say they will make your teeth black if you could actually chew on it). The ripe ones have yellow skin with lots of brown spots. A banana that looked the same would be very mushy and probably rotten.

Thank you for pointing that out. I wasn't aware of the difference either. For sure the next time you get recipes from online like this it would be great if you could post the weblink as well.Well now wait a minute... maybe I should google it and see if I can get a weblink for it. HURRAY! I had success. Hopefully this will post the Web Link when I post it. Well it wouldn't do it so I'll give you the google title CZone & Panama Recipes

I have tried fried plantains before in a restaurant. It was so yummy. They sprinkled powdered sugar on it and it was oh so delish!!
