Travelling Across Panama
RiverQueen from Universal Studios -
Can you imagine being able to travel across a Continent in 5 minutes. Wow that's fantastic.Apparently the rail service which started in 1855 for shipping goods from ships on one side to ships on the other. Much of the original Panama Railroad is now underwater. The Panama Railroad was reserected in 1913 a year before the Panama Cbegan. Now a single train, luxuriously outfitted travels from Panama City to Colon in the morning and returns in the evening. That sounds totally fascinating. Trackbacks

No I cannot imagine travelling across any country, state and least of all a continent in only 57 minutes. That's absolutely unbelievable but since I read it in the article it must be true. I have never been to Panama but after reading all the articles in here I think I'm going to have to start planning a trip there to see all of this for myself, especially the Panama Canal.

Well, just becaues an article says something doesn't mean it's true.. though I suspect the 57 minutes on a train is.Of course by air its more like the 5 minutes RiverQueen mentioned. When flying from Colombia to Panama City you well into the landing pattern when you cross the Atlantic coast of Panama, and of course Panama City is on the Pacific. You might find it takes about 5 minutes to cross the United States from Atlantic to Pacific -- on the space shuttle! If you want to see the Panama Cplan ahead. I was there for a weekend a while back and wanted a tour (the boat ride kind in the Canal). When I asked Friday night about the tours I was told, yes , any time. Well, the "any time" was to stand by the side. The boat tours were at 5:30 AM saturday mornings only!

Wow, how big is the continent? I would love to travel by that rail service just to have the experience. Also, the rail service first class accommodations seem very nice.

57 minutes? Incredible. I would love to visit someday. Panama is on my list of places to visit "one of these days". I had a co-worker (American) that lived there and she raved about it. She would actually like to move back there, but her husband is not too keen on the idea.
